How Hot Is The Seat In Duncan

I know its playoff time and the Rebels haven't done what they are used to doing and yes they have had some adversity with not having a true home game this year and having to be the road warriors all season long but come on guys and gals how long will the Rebel fanbase or better yet the powers that be continue to put up with mediocrity and not winning region and state titles before they let Shaw go.
My personal opinion is I hope they keep him from now own and they give him a pay raise every 2 years to keep him happy lol but I know that is not going to happen. I mean when was the last time that Byrnes had a real true shot to win a state title and actually be in the talks from the start of the year all the way to the end.

The powers that be are content with Coach Shaw. He is a great man and is teaching the players how to become great men. Is he a great coach, well compared to Bentley and Miller, the record says "NO" but while the fans want trophies and status, the administration looks at the BIG PICTURE.
As for me, would I like to see them like they were from 2002 - 2011 where they were in the state title game every year except one, and won all of them except one, 8 out of 10 State Championships.... of course I would. Do I want them to fire Coach Shaw? No. And here is why:
#1 - Look at his overall record prior to this season where there are many injuries, all away games, and all the transfers (and there are many rumors about why they happened, and one man is the reason for some of them and it ain't Coach Shaw):
2023 Reggie Shaw Region 2-AAAAA 9 1 - 4 0
2022 Reggie Shaw Region 2-AAAAA 9 4 - 2 2
2021 Reggie Shaw Region 2-AAAAA 6 6 - 3 1
2020 Reggie Shaw Region 2-AAAAA 2 3 - 2 1
2019 Reggie Shaw Region 2-AAAAA 11 2 - 6 1
2018 Reggie Shaw Region 2-AAAAA 11 3 - 6 1
2017 Reggie Shaw Region 3-AAAAA 7 4 - 1 3
That is a 55 - 23 or 71% winning percentage.
You can throw out 2017 where he inherited the cluster of a mess and the COVID year and he is 46 - 16 or about 75% winning percentage. I know some schools that haven't had that kind of a record in any year for 25 years, let alone have that as a 7 year average.
I'll say it again, would I like to see them like they were from 2002 - 2011 where they were in the state title game every year except one, and won all of them except one, 8 out of 10 State Championships.... of course I would..... but has anyone other than Byrnes or Dutch Fork had a run of 8 championships in 10 ten years in recent history? How many did the Silver Foxes have before TK came to town? It happens in High School football, you get a great run, then you come back to the pack and another team or teams dominate.

Great point @Rebel-Fan-74
Most people don't realize how hard it is to be good, much less great. There are lots of communities that would love 6-4 and a second round exit of the playoffs.
However, the caveat you posed about the coach that caused the recent problems and was not Shaw; Shaw was warned about said coach and chose to not only retain to him but to promoted him within the system.

Yea, some programs would be satisfied with a 6-4 record and a 2nd round playoff game. But those people are not Byrnes who was amongst the states elite not very long ago. And they want to get back to that status. Maybe the administration in Duncan has adopted the Greenville County philosophy on football as far as to where the program stands. But when you absolutely get boat raced by Spartanburg, the natives are just going to get more restless

Yeah, the Brass in Duncan isn't much to be desired..... they definitely get their chops from the Woke/Gville Co types..... They've just about run off all the locals of D5 in the system.
I wonder how the former AD's lawsuit played out..... never heard the result.

I don't think its that hot at all, he has done a great job this year considering the situation.

Think Coach Shaw should be thanking his DC and defense coaches if he remains in Duncan! The Byrnes Defense has won the games or kept them from getting beat to death in all but the Spartanburg game! Which again with the stud RB back Byrnes could be problems going forward!

What is Shaw's record after the middle of October? Byrnes has beat up on bad teams early in years, then never improved. That's been the case every years, with the exception of 2018 ( Upper State Finals) and this year, we didn't beat anyone early. Can't throw out covid, didn't seem to affect Gaffney, DF and other big teams. Also, there are reason kids are leaving by the bunches every year. Don't believe the big picture that gets painted, the program is bad shape and complete over haul is needed. 6 OCs in 8 seasons is a problem. Outside of Cross, no coach has stayed very long, that should tell you something.
You take the teams and talent Shaw has had at Byrnes, give that to Bentley/ Miller/Knotts and they would have produced rings. That shiny new stadium will look real shiny next year when its half full if Shaw is still the HC.
