The only question in the 3A upper state game which team is David? :D
BHP has been #1 3A team from week 0 to now and MVP which you must be from planet Mars not to know this is more of a 5A/4A team of all-stars playing in the 3A classification! Do BHP do this for all the small towns and prove that culture and true tradition matters?
OR will MVP prove that this is the new norm and TRUE TALENT TRUMPS everything?

BHP 28
MVP 24

I'll take BHP for two reasons...

Hands down the most atrocious, down right ugly uniforms.. Teal is not a color. It's a hot girls last name from Cowpens or Goucher.

And I just don't care for the idea of making up a school, naming it after a fictional place or subdivision to create a "brand" should be a thing.

The Most Valuable Player All Stars...👎
I don't care how many games they win.
I'm not even sure you can view a mountain from there.

Let me tell you, I have had enough of the charter school powerhouses. Here's what needs to happen:
1) MVP smokes BHP.
2) Oceanside will beat Loris.
3) BHP SHOULD be the rightful champion in a victory over a still excellent Loris team.
4) Instead, MVP will smoke Oceanside in its very-first year of its program's history in a state championship game played by two charter schools who SWEAR they don't recruit.
and 5) People everywhere should be angry. Very angry. The multiplier was a nice thought, but it clearly wasn't enough. The charter schools are taking over high school sports (not just football) and it's unfair on every possible level. This isn't Dutch Fork or Abbeville; they became dominant within the confines of the rules.
There is nothing fair about this. Congrats to BHP and Loris. Y'all deserve the championship.

MVP is not an All-Star team. They have an elite running back, a good wide receiver, and a decent rush defense. Outside of that they are very average. They’ve also had the benefit of a very easy schedule and region. I have no idea how this game’s gonna go.

I'm a Coastal alumnus and will not stand for this teal slander, sir.

Saying Dutch Fork, Abbeville, and schools like them became dominant within the confines of the rules and not MVP is ridiculous. MVP is sanctioned by the SCHSL just like BHP, the players they have chose to go there, and they had the same choice as every player in the entire state they were just the ones who decided to do it. Crescent had every opportunity to win that game last Friday, it's not like they were blown out by a team that no one has a shot against. MVP is a SCHSL football team like everyone else and the better team will win this Friday. The only team deserving to be called state champions is the one who wins the game in Orangeburg.

I think MVP wins this game because 1) I don't care about the color of someone's uniform, and 2) they have the best player in the state regardless of class and a very good WR and if they use them correctly they should be able to stay in a shootout with BHP and prevail at the end. It will really depend on how MVP's QB plays.

I see both sides of the argument as I have a friend who has a son playing for MVP.

I figure this is the way of the future and the SCHSL has to come up with a solution and moving them to a different classification is not the answer. It just moves the problem to a different place but it doesn't do anything to solve the problem.

I think the only real answer is to have two divisions, public schools only and an open division that can include public and private schools.

For the public schools, have 1A, 2A and 3A and split them for the playoffs.

For the open division, have class I, class II, & class III and class I is schools that are currently 1A or 2A in size now and have class II the larger than 2A schools and then have Class III as totally open and anyone, public or private can join and realignment for everyone is every two years.

I'm just saying the concept of academy, magnet, prep and what ever word that is used to imply being better... By getting the best players/students... And that's important.... Getting the best players/students by "transfer" or whatever word u wanna use there, scholarship?? ... To me , personally.. shouldn't be a thing.

To me after... My 51 years on planet earth just doesn't seem like it should be an option.
If it's to " save education " or something... That's long gone.

It's my opinion...
I have no problem with them being a school!!! Or the curriculum... It's a great idea.

But when you only take the best for sports and gpa's for branding, show, etc...

To me... IT IS NO LONGER SCHOOL.

but I'm just an old man basing it off of my life and the people I have known and this wonderful city around us all...

In hindsight, I have a sense of foresight...

I do not think it's a good thing in the long run. It's just my opinion. I pray and I mean pray that the kids playing this Friday and the over 500+ Fridays I've witnessed..

I pray they overcome our mistakes
...and take advantage of our wisdom despite our best efforts.

It just seems , idk... Fake...

Like a bad jobber wrestler, like a local Part time weather person, like a bad waffle house cook..like that one person we all know.. and you know you DO know them... that just isn't your guy, your person.. it just doesnt sit right on every fiber of who you are...

It doesn't feel right to me.
It's about people... not just football.
It hasn't been about education in God knows how long.

I hope I'm wrong.

I wouldn't trade my education for one today.
And that's sad.

MVP is a public charter, free-tuition school. How do you think they're getting these players? It's because the players are choosing to play there. Not through scholarship, or having money thrown at them, or coaches knocking on their doors, it's because the kids saw an opportunity to succeed on the football field and decided to go play together. Every kid in South Carolina had that choice. No one gets upset when a player from Greer transfers to Byrnes, or a player from Blacksburg transfers to Gaffney, but when a player from Blue Ridge or Broome or Dorman transfers to MVP, now it's a problem. MVP did not obtain any of these players any worse than how Spartanburg and the other 5A schools obtain their transfers. Grey Ramsey is a well-known coach in the upstate and brought many more well-known coaches with him, the players coming to play for them was inevitable.

And for education, I know many kids at MVP and they're getting great education. There is a duel-enrollment program set up with Spartanburg Community College to help the kids graduate with their associates degree. They have great teachers and administration just like every other SCHSL school surrounding them. Sounds like a good gig to me.

MVP is definitely school, or the SCHSL wouldn't have sanctioned them. The coaches look out for the players and have the players' best interest in mind. If other coaches in the upstate are so upset at their players leaving their programs, they should look within and see why the players are leaving instead of bashing MVP for doing nothing wrong.
