This was a great season for many teams in South Carolina. It’s been 9 years since Northwestern last won a title and we have been through a lot over those 9 years. Gaffney, Dutch Fork, Abbeville and some others have plenty to crow about in the storied history of their programs. I’m starting this thread to indulge myself and some other Trojan faithful in sharing thoughts on where this team stacks up. Of course you are all welcome to join in.

Just a reminder...2017, 2018 and 2019 are some of the worst years of Northwestern football in the past 40 years. Not taken anything away from Dutch Forks run over the past 15 years but some of our teams would have held their own against them. I wish we could play this year just too see who the 5A champion really is.

I thought 2006 was the low point in program history.

The 2017 South Pointe team with Derion Kendrick might be the best team in state history. Averaged 53 points per game on offense in the 5 playoff games and only gave up 12.3 points per game on defense.

Didn’t NW and DF have a game type scrimmage THIS year..Congrats on getting halfway with your 9th title, but imo the Fox dodge a bullet with the stupid split division..

Scrimmage....you got to do better than that....Green is not your color, Mikey. Halfway there in 12 seasons... all after the advent of the facemask; Most of Gaffney's titles came before the Tet Offensive.
Defense wins championships...

Yes, it was a scrimmage and yes, Northwestern won. But if you were there, you know both teams were absolutely playing to win that scrimmage, as they do each year. Starters played the entire time and Dutch Fork was driving and calling timeouts on the final drive to try to get into field goal range.
Yes, it was a scrimmage and doesn't count in the standings, but the two teams did actually play, so for those that keep saying "What If".
This scrimmage also should stop folks from saying "Dutch Fork would win" if the two teams met in the regular season. Who knows what would happen, but to say Dutch Fork would win isn't a given. But, no one on here can say DF was clearly the better team as the only actual meeting on the field in 2024 between the two teams was a Northwestern win.

That argument sound like B#1 for years..I bet those won in the early days against Columbia HS were down right brutal and bloody..football changes but one thing is remains consistent and that’s the Gaffney Indians..might not win it every year, but we gonna be in the mix..
Nice deflection anyway..
PS ….I actually like Green ….coached the Green Hornets for yrs..worked in a Green room for 30 yrs..took green suckers to the women on the night shift( if you know, you know)…hell I even bought a pair of army green trousers last month..but I bleed Black and Gold..

I kinda figured this would go the way it is going DFold can’t help yourself either the Silver Fox hype. It is earned, the foxes have had a great run since Knotts came to town. Let’s we if another head coach can duplicate the output when he retires. We have had 3 head coaches I know win championships. I haven’t been here that long.
Southpointe had a great run with Kendrick for sure. DK was a special athlete and surrounded by other great athletes.
Gaffney has such a long storied history. It’s been tougher sledding in the more recent 2 decades I guess but always in the mix.
Of our 6 championships only 3 of those teams have been undefeated. I didn’t know that until the pregame Saturday. Worley, Rudolph and now 2024. This year’s team averaged 49.3 points per game with a running clock rule in place. That is pretty impressive.
By the way, I am not suggesting any kind of ranking of best teams in the history of SC football. Nor a program comparison with anyone. This team compared to other great Northwestern teams. This might be the most complete team without the stars we have seen in the past.
By the way Dfold. I watched the Summerville game. Good thing for the Foxes the QB went down. Backup did an admirable job and kept them in the game. Crowing about dominance when they struggled mightily with a low country team playing a backup is not your best look. Too bad there isn’t a way for Northwestern to play DF in a full game this year. I wouldn’t guarantee a win, but if DF played like they did against Summerville it would have been a very long sad day for everyone in Irmo.
