How many think Byrnes...

Post by 1st&Goal »

has a better than 50% chance of beating DF? Can Byrnes 2014 D stop the DF O? Will Byrnes O give us another HEART ATTACK game for a win? Or do you DF will just run wild on Byrnes?

As a side note: I hope Byrnes can get the special teams healthy for next week.
If you cant walk it..You prolly shouldnt talk it!!

First thoughts are it could be a long night...

Last night there were a lot of penalties and it was late when we got out of there, now add the time from Dutch Fork and it may be breakfast time by the time we get home! We did OK last night shutting down the run for the most part, so I think our defense can keep us in the game. If our play calling could get back into some kind of rhythm and and we quit throwing that lob pass to the RB when we get in the red zone!

I expect this to be a game that will get a lot of interest. We know about last year, we know how had the coach tried to get us to play him and how we dodged him....

I think this game could be interesting. I think Byrnes will have a hard time stopping the run. I don't know much about Dutch Fork but from the highlights I saw last night they have a pretty big O line and the running back looked very small but very fast, I know that seeing it on tv doesn't do it justice. I think it will come down to who can execute the game plan the best.

Two things about the dorman/Dutch fork game. Our kicking game was atrocious. Our first two kickoffs were apparently meant to either prevent a big return and/or present an opportunity for an onsides play. The balls arced up in the air and maybe 20 yards deep. The Dutch fork receivers had to fair catch, yes. But one play later and they're in dorman territory. A 3rd onside attempt late in the game was unsuccessful. One blocked field goal at the end of the 1st half with 1 second left that was returned for a TD. And a blocked extra point late in the game.

Our defense played pretty good, allowing ten offensive points in both the first and second half each. But in the 2nd half the defensive coaching strategy was soft zone and playing not to lose except that we were already losing. Dutch fork put on a clinic showing how to stop a good offense. They played tight and closed quick to time hits when the balls arrived. Our defense played to prevent big plays which eats up the clock especially when the other team is milking a lead. I just never saw any adjustments in the 2nd half for our defense.

Not a whole lot to complain about as far as the dorman offense except that key penalties and dropped/errant passes were enough to prevent us against an already very stingy dutch fork defense.

Should be a good game next week. I actually am inclined to say that the team that takes the most chances and plays to win will do just that. Dutch fork won't give you the margins that dorman did defensively. They won't wait for you to shoot yourselves in the foot, they'll pull the trigger for you. If you're both shooting at your feet Byrnes might be in trouble.

The Byrnes D should be able to keep DF to 21 points or less. But offensively Byrnes cannot squander opportunities and expect to win.

I don't know who wins this one. It could go either way.
Maybe 51% DF, because they are at home? :?:

I saw some signs Friday night that Byrnes 2014 D could certainly contain the DF O better than last year.
Much better at playing disciplined, tackling, and keeping contain against Northwestern.

Byrnes D did an excellent job of holding the Northwestern offense to 29 points in regulation.
(especially given the field position that Northwestern had most of the night)

Of course the Byrnes O needs to score points but I think it is also important for Byrnes O to produce 1st downs.
(Even if it doesn't lead to points.) You can't have the time of possession fall so heavily in favor of Dutch Fork.
Last year, I knew Byrnes was in serious trouble midway through the 3rd quarter because the time of possession had gotten the Byrnes D tired.
Also, keep in mind that Dutch Fork's defense seems to have improved throughout the season. After giving up 19, 58, 24,and 48 points in their first 4 games. They have given up 14 points or less in 9 straight games. Some due to the level of competition.
But much like the Byrnes D holding Dorman to 16 points, Dutch Fork holding Dorman to 13 points is very impressive.

Dutch Fork's trap plays and off tackle plays are tough to stop. Their play action passing game is predicated from them. Byrnes D has to play better gap control as compared to last year.

Most important, just tackle #31 Matt Colburn, several times Byrnes had opportunities to tackle him for a loss or a short gain but allowed him to escape for greater yardage and a better down and distance.

Colburn has an uncanny ability to turn plays that look to have no gain into 4 yard gains or more.

This could be HUGE and hopefully given a week, they can correct the long snap issues.
The long snap issue explains some of the 4th down calls during the game.

Should be a GREAT game!!!
