FLORENCE, S.C. — South Florence got over its second-round hump in a big way.

The Bruins exploded for 24 points in the second quarter en route to a 38-23 victory over North Augusta on Friday in the Class 4A Division II playoffs at Memorial Stadium. It’s the first time South has advanced past the second round in school history.

The Bruins will host Spartanburg, a 55-20 winner over Stratford, in the state semifinal game next Friday.

The game log tells the tale. After the first 6 1/2 minutes SF held NA scoreless for the next 31 1/2 minutes, while the Bruins scored 4 times for 24 points.

The last 2.5 minutes of the 1st half knocked the wind out of the Yellow Jackets, they never gave up, but they never recovered.

SF is a good team but the officiating crew beat NA! Worst officiating I have ever witnessed. Even the SF announcer said there was home cooking! It is disgraceful that incompetent officiating impacts a game in the way it did in this game. This game was a hell of a lot closer than the score indicates. Spartanburg had better hope that crew is somewhere else for the semifinal.

Whatever.... and by the way that last TD NA scored was against our 2nd and 3rd string defence...
