There will be a fairly lengthy post on this tomorrow morning. Needless to say...it's time for the players...and coaches to wake up. These lopsided home losses are getting old.

Well this is a big wake up for Coach Mark Barnes and the Sumter Gamecocks. And we cannot have another home loss like this with the expectations that this team had. First of all I was wondering if we're going to come out of the locker room because the players are in there so long they ready to kick the ball off before we even came out. Half of the time we did not know what we were doing out there. We finally settled down with about five minutes to go in the second quarter. We forced some three and outs, got a safety, finally got a touchdown on the board and going to the half down 21 to 9. We come out on defense and give up a passing interference after we were fixing to get the ball back and they go down and score. A running defense was nonexistent. Pretty much all York was doing were running plays because I consider bubble screens running plays and we could not stop the bubble screen and we could stop the dive. If we play like this against Crestwood, then Crestwood is going to start another streak on us. And we have the coaches to be a good team. We have the players in place to be a good team. Now it's time to go out there and be a good team . We're not expecting a state championship season but we do expect to go out there and complete and make it a football game each and every time we go out there on the field. Sumter fans were not happy yesterday because we expected more. It looked like coach gave up once we got down 28 to 9 because we were still running the ball instead of testing York's sophomores in their secondary. Coach Barnes...don't give up on your team...if we get down big we have to pass the ball not run it. It starts with the coaching staff doing a better job of coaching and reading your scouting reports. I hope this is the worst game we played this season. With that in mind York is indeed a championship team. We are trying to get where they are. This game does not define who we are as a team. The important thing is to get better each and every week and hopefully we figure it out come region play. I saw the potential out there yesterday but now it is really time to bring it all together. This loss is on Coach Barnes, but I'm still confident that ship will get righted, and we will be a good team come region play, but all around we need to realize that the football season has started and it's time to go out there and play Sumter football. I have faith in this team but we just have to go out there or not shoot ourselves in the foot. Lose the game because we played our best and the other team is just a better team. We can't keep committing pass interference on third down, dropping touchdown passes, throwing interceptions that if we set out feet and throw the ball the receiver will waltz into the end zone, and committing holding penalties that negate first downs. We need to get it together now this week against Crestwood.

Tough night bbrown1240
Maybe this new Sumter coach will have to learn his team, some kids you never know what they will do until they are under the lights.
As you mentioned, York did play for the state title last year.
What were your overall impressions of them?

York is going to be great. Offensive and defensive lines are huge. They will put it in the air a lot but mainly on bubble screens. They are very disciplined. Only committed 2 penalties all night.
