Robinson’s late TD pass helps South Florence Bruins escape with win

FLORENCE, S.C. — David Prince’s drained, postgame expression said it all. He enjoys his South Florence High School football team’s victories but wishes they were more comfortable.
After having to pull away late from Southeast Raleigh on Aug. 29, the Bruins fell behind three different times Friday against a Crestwood team which had lost seven games in a row. But as it happened against Southeast Raleigh, Bruins quarterback Lindsey Robinson’s arm saved the day.
On Friday, with the game tied at 35, Robinson found Ty King for an 18-yard pass with 1:19 left in the game for a 42-35 win at Memorial Stadium.

Re: South Florence 42 - Crestwood 35
< Shaking my head > Just too close.
We turned the ball over on the 2nd play of the game giving them a very short field and an easy score. We quickly drive down the field to even things up, but let them return the ensuing kickoff for a TD. 2 minutes into the game and we're trailing 14-7.
Our offense starts clicking after that, ending up with 410 yards in the air, 131 on the ground, 6 TDs. However, in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters long drives stalled in the red zone and we turned the ball over on downs. We failed to convert possession time and yards into points. Those stalls and an ineffective defense allowed Crestwood to keep it neck-and-neck until we scored the final tie-breaking TD with 1:19 left in the game.
Our defense,.... well.
We gave up 4 offensive TDs. 159 yards on the ground, 115 in the air. Our 3A opponents now behind us, we may be in big trouble in the coming weeks. I fear I'll soon see more games like Fort D.
Sportsmanship. I'm not sure how many personal fouls we got called for last night, 2 maybe 3. That's 2 or 3 too many and I saw at least one more instance that should have drawn a flag. Our coaches and parents need to reign in the trash talk and behavior. It is unnecessary, costly and embarrassing. Knock off the after-tackle and after-catch antics, stop running your mouth. Let the scoreboard do the talking!!
