The Showdown that Dreaded Sundown... Dorman @ Byrnes

The last time these 2 teams met Byrnes left the game with a 17-16 victory in Cavalier stadium. This time the matchup is at Nixon field and the Cavs are looking to even the score. The defense (like last year) Should rule this game this year and if Tyrek Long and Diquan Green are healthy enough by that time it should be a great game. I think both teams are gonna play and leave it all on the field, especially with whoever wins gets Second place in region 2 4A.

Byrnes' defense is great this year and so is Dorman's offense. Dorman has a "pretty decent" defense. I've been hunting for a description of our defense and "pretty decent" is about as close as I can come. We've gotten some key stops and forced some punts against some good offenses and against Spartanburg it was our offense that was in the driver's seat to win the game thanks to a stop we got on defense. But the Vikes were trying to run clock and weren't desperate to get downfield the way that Dutch Fork was. Our defense looks good against average or below average offenses and also against good teams that are ahead and trying to run clock.
We're pretty good against the run but teams have picked our secondary apart through the air. We play a zone "bend-but-don't-break" style of defense without much penetration or pressure on opposing QB's. We just haven't gotten the breaks that you plan and hope for when you play that style. You hope for a pic or a fumble or drive ending penalty that can sway a close game. We lost 2 very close games to Dutch Fork and Spartanburg this year, two teams with great coaching and discipline. Games that came down to last possessions and the last minutes on the clock.
I'm not sure what our injury situation is. I was told we lost some key defensive players early in the season and have been trying cope since then. Having watched the Byrnes/Spartanburg contest I feel we have as good a shot as we've had since 2010 to beat the Rebels. I know the Rebels have a really good, opportunistic defense this year and they are going to have their moments Friday night. Dorman's offense will definitely get as much of a test as they have had all year but we'll get our licks in. I suspect the game will be decided by the matchup of our defense against Byrnes' offense. Spartanburg got all those sacks against the Rebels thanks to a smothering secondary that offered Micah few targets. I don't think Dorman will blanket the Byrnes receivers as thoroughly and I don't suspect we'll be able to get after him like Spartanburg did. If I'm being honest, I hope to benefit from some penalties against the Rebel offense and a turnover or two.
My buddy said we just don't have an identity on defense this year. Our offense has an identity but our defense is playing small ball. I'm hoping we can switch gears in the playoffs on defense. If our offense stays as good and our defense improves then we have a good chance to make it to Columbia.

I think La Neuva streams on tune in app. Anyway, I don't want to hear any crap about the parking at Dorman after what it's going to be like at Byrnes. Parking has never been great there but with that construction mess, it's multiplied awful. I am looking forward to a great game.

The parking is the same as always, just that one of the gates has been affected. Not sure where the construction issue comes in because its in the middle of the campus away from the parking lots. The best place to park would be the grass lot across from the high school and walk around the fine arts building into that gate. If this route is taken, construction will not be an issue, nor really seen until in the stadium with the construction going on behind the visitor side.

This should be a TREAT! I expect Byrnes to win this due to home field advantage.

Thanks. The last time I was by there it looked as if all the access to the field was being blocked by construction except by the band field and home side. We normally park around by the gym and come in on that side.

If you go between the Gym and the Soccer Field, there is a walk way open that side, but with any construction, that can change at any time.
You could park in the grass field across from the baseball stadium and walk across the end zone and then when you leave, turn right and go through Lyman instead of getting on 290.

If Byrnes continues to resurrect the running game and quick passes like we have seen since the Spartanburg game, I like Byrnes. If not, then its any ones boxing match.
