Concerns for tonight's matchup

I'm most worried about Byrnes' passing game. They have some big athletic receivers. We are going to have to keep plays in front of us and not get beat deep. Not sure if they go with a lot of bubble screens but we'll have to keep those to minimal gains. I'll expect to see 2 high safeties most of the night and dare them to run. Byrnes is going to score some points, no doubt. We just have to prevent big plays and quick touchdowns and make them have long drives, hoping they make a mistake or two.
On offense, we just need good sustained drives for touchdowns. Run the ball, mix in some pass, take time off the clock, and keep their offense on the sideline. Probably the biggest thing is to not turn the ball over. Bigger athletes mean harder hits and protecting the ball should be priority. When all else fails, punt the football and leave it to the defense.
We can't be shellshocked tonight like we were back in '08. We are the home team and hopefully all of Sumter County has our back tonight. I expect a great game tonight.

Unlike in other years, Byrnes is very solid against the run this year. If Byrnes can slow the run, we should be in good shape. The two players that have made it happen all year will be the difference again tonight. #9 is to me the most complete WR Byrnes had had in the last 15 years of this run and that is saying something because we've had some good ones. #12 is Mr. everything for the Rebels, if you look close he may be selling popcorn at halftime. Those are our two shrine bowlers and should take us to the next round. Also, with Mag's defense back in full force I expect Byrnes to take care of business.
Byrnes 41
Sumter 21

I hope for a good injury free game for both teams and I wish good luck to Sumter. I don't know much about them and I haven't had any time to look at any film. I will say this about Byrnes you're either going to have to stop the pass or stop the run. You can't do BOTH that I promise you teams have tried to do so and they get sucked in. Don't let the Rebels score because they can score just as quick on defense and also on special teams. Play good solid fundamental football and it should be a good game. The only thing I'm concerned with is the drive down and back home tonight and then back up in the AM to make the trip back to Columbia. I've tried every scenario possible from having to come back to Duncan tonight but all of them got shot down. I will be a total Zombie come Saturday night. Good luck all and for all my Rebel family coming down be safe and DO THE SPEED LIMIT as soon as you hit NEWBERRY COUNTY.

Hard to see Sumter matching the team speed and athletes at Byrnes. I think this one gets ugly and Byrnes cruises to an easy win

Sumter has no shortage of athletes. Only 11 students separate the two schools in the last ADM.
....and who knows, they may have some kids from Crestwood and Lakewood suited up for this one.

I agree it's hard to prepare for byrnes and their speed. Teams that do not see Byrnes on a regular basis normally struggle with the speed difference. I believe the much tougher schedule that Byrnes played will make a huge difference tonight.

But if there is one lower state team that gives upper state teams fits in the playoffs...its Sumter.
I hope all Byrnes fans have a safe trip.
"Hail to the Victors!"

Sumter has what it takes to neutralize the speed of Byrnes.. a strong run game..just depends on wether or not they can execute...if they can sustain 3 yrds and a cloud of dust without penalty's or turnovers..i see this being a very good game with a good possibilty of a Sumter win..but if Byrnes jumps out with a couple of quick scores, which they seem to do a lot, could be a long night for the Gamecocks..

Gamecocks are horrible... oh wait, you aren't talking about my South Carolina Gamecocks....
I expect this to be much tougher of a match up than most Rebel fans. I think we will go deep into the third quarter and maybe in to the fourth with a one score difference before the Rebels wrap it up and ride out the clock to win by two scores.

If I wasn't going to the Fort game tonight I'd really like to go see this one. I haven't seen either team this year or anything but I have been keeping an eye on Sumter all year and Byrnes is one of the gold standards for high school football so I am really intrigued by the matchup. If I was betting my own money on this I'd go with Byrnes because they have proven over and over why they are a contender every year...but I really do like Sumter and thought they might be a playoff dark horse. It's a shame they have to face such a quality team this early in the tournament. I'll be keeping track of this one on scorestream all night!
