Stating the obvious, 3A/2A/1A are all bracketed Upper State and Lower State as to ensure an Upper State vs Lower State game for the state championship.

Even with the cross bracketing and seedings, both 4A D1 & 4A D2 provided us with Upper State vs Lower State games for the state championships.

Final tally:
Upper State 5 Lower State 2

Upper State Champions:
4A D2 Northwestern
3A South Pointe
2A D2 Abbeville
1A D1 Southside Christian
1A D2 Lamar

Lower State Champions:
4A D1 Fort Dorchester
2A D1 Dillon

Congrats to all the state champions!! Each team did what they needed to do to defeat the teams they had to play and EARN their championship "on the field"!

Still Dont see how lamar is upper state when they are in the pee dee. Timmonsville is lower state and they are less than 10 miles apart

Its based on what region they are in. SCHSL keeps a balance, half of the regions are lower state, half are upper state. In reality, Dillon is probably closer to an "Upper State" team than Lamar.

Obviously you like to argue with me just to argue. I was actually AGREEING and you found a way to try to "prove something". If you break a state down by upper and lower state and the middle part of the state being the "cut off line" then YES, Dillon would be closer to being UPPER STATE than LOWER STATE, and for argument sake, it is located North of Lamar (no due North, but still NORTH). Dillon is 34.4178° N,
while Lamar is 34.1703° N.
The point I was making in my original post was giving an EXPLANATION to your question as to why Lamar was considered Lower State and Timmonsville not. It is due to Regions. Regions 1-4 are considered Upper State by the High School League and 5-8 are considered Lower State. The High School League strives to make it an even amount of teams on each side (upper and lower). Due to the population of South Carolina this doesn't always set-up Upper and Lower State that makes sense. In the case of Lamar and Timmonsville, you have TONS of 1A schools that populate that rural part of South Carolina. Timmonsville plays in Region 7, while Lamar in Region 3, hence the Lower State vs. Upper State deal.
