Region One- To avoid any 'Homer'ism. I put them in order of their Doodle's power rating.
1. TL Hanna 234.8
2. Westside 215.8
3. Easley 190.7
4. Woodmont 188.2
(will update when the new power ratings come out)
These are my picks.
Region Two-
1. Greenwood- Greenwood (slightly). GWD needs to clean some things up but I still like the offense.
2. Hillcrest- With a 39-6 win over Laurens last night. Strong consideration for the top spot.
3. Mauldin- Mauldin has a HUGE home game vs. GWD this week. Could move them up.
4. Laurens- Laurens is STILL off to a slow start. They have a chance to get back in the W column with back to back games against Wade Hampton and Riverside.
Region Three- Very competitive Region. All tough games. Didn't someone say something about everybody finishing 2-2.
1. Spartanburg- BIG WIN over Byrnes. OPEN DATE this week before a showdown with Dorman in Week 8.
2. Byrnes - Enormous game with Boiling Springs, you don't want to start 0-2 in this Region.
3. Gaffney- HUGE game @ Dorman. Can the Indians get revenge for the heartbreaking 48-45 loss last year.
4. Dorman- I told you that I hadn't ruled them out. Gutshall's team started slow....and as expected has improved. Wouldn't be shocked to see them move up.
5. Boiling Springs- Tough loss against Dorman friday night. Replacing all the seniors from last years team may be too much in this region?
Region Four-
1. Northwestern- Good opening region win against Ft. Mill. Still believe they are the team to beat in 5A-4.
2. Fort Mill- Only losses are to Spring Valley and York. Two teams that are combined 11-1.
3. Nation Ford- A good win over Clover. At home against Rock Hill for a Region shifting game. Might have finally found their offense; scoring 38 and 31 in their last 2 games. Or did the level of competition help?
4. Rock Hill- Huge game vs. Nation Ford to move up in this Region. Since a good win over York, they have lost 4 straight by 21 or more points.
Region Five- Basically the same as last week.
1. Dutch Fork- Hard to argue against Tom Knotts. A possible HUGE showdown with Spring Valley could be brewing for Week 9.
2. Spring Valley- Likely the most serious threat to DF. SV is averaging 41 pts a game.
3. Lexington- Maybe the only team that could derail the DF and SV party at the top. HUGE game @ DF this week.
4. Irmo- Big win over White Knoll has them back in the region mix. Region shifting game vs. SV.
5. White Knoll- Loss against Irmo has them needing wins against River Bluff and Blythewood to qualify for the playoffs.
Region Six-
1. Sumter- Good region opening win over South Florence.
2. Conway- Got back on track with a 35-7 win over WF. Strongly considering them for that top spot in region.
3. Carolina Forest- Made a statement with a 56-27 win over Socastee.
4. Socastee- Will need wins against SF and WF to garner this playoff spot.
Region Seven-
1. Fort Dorchester- Tour of Destruction continues....has scored over 60 in 3 straight games.
2. Summerville- Close win over West Ashley still has me thinking 2nd place. Big game against Wando.
3. Ashley Ridge- Big win over Goose Creek.
4. Wando- HUGE region shifting games against Summerville, Goose Creek, and Ashley Ridge over the next 3 weeks.
5. Goose Creek- Tough loss to AR (20-17). Game against Wando in week 8 is a Big One.
6. West Ashley- Tough losses to AR,GC, and Summerville. Need to get wins against James Island and Stratford.
At-Large:
AL- Blythewood.

Socastee only has 27 players on varsity. They may struggle more as the year wears on.

Really...Wow.
And this is the point in the season when having those thin numbers can really hurt.
Of course, back in 1990's.
I saw a Daniel team in 3A under Allen Sitterle that only suited up 26 players.
Only 1 kid played both ways. MLB also played some Fullback.
They won the State Championship.
Key to that team was 2 OL that were D1 recruits. One went to Alabama.
They could control the Line Of Scrimmage.

They don't have a ton of athletes either. Fundamental coaching and scheme is their key. Not sure what is going on number wise at Socastee but they've never been that low on kids. Maybe kids don't want to play for the coach?
