Exactly. Linemen matter.Deputy wrote:Not really. Can't tell anything from 7 on 7. It's great for reps. But you have a QB that gets to patiently work through reads without worrying about being hit. Totally different game when the big boys get on the field. Was either last year, or two years ago, I remember Boiling Springs just toasting everyone all summer during the 7 on 7 circuit. But then when folks kicked it off for real, they were very average.
Ehh. I disagree a little bit. You can tell quite a bit from 7on7s. Can your QB go through progressions? Can your receivers run good routes? How long can your defense cover? All good things for a team. But, yes to your point line play is critical. But, historically teams that play well in 7on7s do have good seasons. I am not saying that being 7on7 champs means state champs, but success in 7on7s does normally point to successes during the season. (always exceptions to the rule however).Deputy wrote:Not really. I agree with both.you can tell if you have good qb and reciever play and cover guys.its different when some pressure and your vision is clogged.i think in general they are good though. Definitely not a waste of time.Fortfor5 wrote:Ehh. I disagree a little bit. You can tell quite a bit from 7on7s. Can your QB go through progressions? Can your receivers run good routes? I agree with you on this. 7 on 7 is mainly good for reps and a chance to see another defense besides your own team. Unless a QB has a line that can hold up for four plus seconds, he is going to be on the move not standing tall in the pocket. And defensively, when will a coach be in man to man coverage the entire game? Can't crown a champion, say a player is a game changer, or predict the season based off of what you see in 7 on 7, which has been stated. When the bullets start flying and the big lights are on then we see how things play out.Deputy wrote:Not really. Can't tell anything from 7 on 7. It's great for reps. We responded to your previous comment that "You can't tell anything from a 7on7". It seems now you have backtracked and are saying that you can tell certain things. We disagreed with your previous comment and in fact feel you can tell "a lot". The only thing you can't tell is if the team has a line or not. If a team has a good o-line, and is amazing at 7on7s, you are likely looking at the state champions.Deputy wrote:Don't get me wrong. It does have a place. Gets good reps for DB's, route running, QB progression. But have seen many of the 7 on 7 Wonderboy QBs wilt like a dying flower when he is suddenly faced by a linebacker, or defensive end, coming off the corner. Now they do show if folks have some athletic talent at the skill positions. But it doesn't guarantee what will come in the fall. Before, I referenced Boiling Springs a year, or two, ago. Seemed to beat the brakes off of everyone all summer in the 7 on 7 circuit. Regular season? Average. The other day Northwestern beat Dutch Fork. I'll take DF if they met up in the fall.
