No COVID, No politics, just football... and the SCHSL

Post by Rebel-Fan-74 »

We all seem to have some issues with the SCHSL, some of us minor issues, some want it to just go away.

OK, you have been offered the job to take over as the head man at the SCHSL... what is your agenda? What changes will be offered up in the next few weeks? Here is your chance to implement sweeping changes.... go for it!

First thing that I do is cancel the 2020 season until covid-19 is under control. No reason to try and re invent the wheel after the motor blew up. People being pissed, mad, or throwing a fit, is better than being dead.

Qnd the fact travel baseball is loaded up every weekend pkaying with no ill effects.
#2 id set rules and walk a straight line .across the board..
#3 i would rotate the board .1 coach or ad from each region
.
Open transfer .but u sit out 3 games .you can transfer twice.
#3 we would have arbitrary committie .

Postpone the season until the first Friday in November. A ton of this is political. Once the election is over, either a Biden election will suddenly lift the cloud over inflated numbers of cases, and deaths caused by Covid, or the press will be too busy crying in their beer because somehow Trump won again. Not saying this isnt real, and an issue, but I am actually surprised that some folks will even drive anywhere. They have a much better chance of dying behind the wheel. Of course if one does die in a car wreck, the hospital will find some way to list the death as Covid so they can get that extra chunk of change they get from the government.

I would create an Open Division with the 20 Largest Schools and also include all Private and Charter Schools currently playing in the SCHSL in this Group. The Private schools and Charter schools have open doors to anyone and obviously don't have to follow zoning rules so let them play in an open division that has no restrictions to size and attendance. The larger schools can afford to travel and usually are fighting to find teams to play and often play teams out of state to fill their schedule cause no one wants to get their butts handed to them in most cases. Schools that wanted to petition to be in the Open class would be welcome but would be in that classification for a minimum of two years.

I would then reclassify the rest of the state into 4 groups based on true enrollment minus the special needs kids that are included currently in these numbers. Some schools have a high number that currently affects what classification they are in and these kids would NEVER play sports.

I wouldn't allow for a change of region or classification based on students taking classes at other schools (that is the student's choice and school district policy that allows it). More time would be spent to develop regions that made sense instead of driving all over the state. In some rural cases, this is not possible to prevent but the preservation of rivalries and reducing travel costs need to be a priority.

Region Champions would only make the playoffs, too much time is spent rewarding failure when teams that have a losing record are rewarded. I would create in Football the opportunity for the communities to create a Bowl type game as a reward for teams that have won 8 or more games to be invited to play. Such as a Sertoma Bowl or a BMW Bowl, a Boeing Bowl, something the community and businesses can offer up support.

An Executive committee would be made up of an Athletic Director and Principal from each Division rotating every two years (not the same school) and the Executive Director of the League.

The Appeal Committee would be a panel of 9 rotating School Board Members from different areas of the state. None could be within 30 miles other to ensure they come from all reaches. With 85 school districts, I am confident this could be done.

I like a lot of your ideas, but not this one.

Here is why I don't think Region Champions only will not work, and I just picked these teams as an example, not as a prediction of the season.

1st example, only one goes?
Region 2
Byrnes ..... 5-0 : 10-0
Dorman ... 4-1 : 9-1

2nd example, a 3-8 team is REGION CHAMP
Region 4
Northwestern .. 3-1 : 3-8 and a loss to Rock Hill
Rock Hill.......... 2-2 : 8-2
Blythewood..... 2-2 : 8-2
Ridge View...... 2-2 : 7-3
Spring Valley... 1-3 : 1-9

I agree Region Champs are in, and hosting in round one; however, I think you need to go deeper than just the Region Champ. Now do we need to have 16 teams in both Upper and Lower brackets? That's another discussion. I think 12 is a better number, especially in 5 team Regions, and I'd give the Region Champs a bye week.

................................Region 1 Champion
Region 2 Runner up \ ________________
Region 3 Third Place/

................................Region 2 Champion
Region 3 Runner up \ ________________
Region 4 Third Place/

................................Region 3 Champion
Region 4 Runner up \ ________________
Region 1 Third Place/

................................Region 4 Champion
Region 1 Runner up \ ________________
Region 2 Third Place/
.

Points work, regions never have and never will. However we will always use region finish in playoff seeding because it ensures an even spread of representation throughout the state

it is what it is and the best teams usually rise to the top no matter the formula

Mandatory Fireworks Displays.
Tops Optional.
Rock and Roll band every Friday night.
Pee Wee scrimmage for halftime.
Free drinks for a flash.
One yellow flag for the fans for each game.
More drones. Especially during the fireworks.
MSNBC Broadcast pre game.
Gambling booths.
Every game televised.
Putt-Putt golf course.
Skeet Shooting.
Kissing booth.
Oh and insanely complicated points system that adds more suspense and weight to each game.
