I know there are a lot of Navy and other vets on the board. I wanted to share this video. My second ship was the same type as the BHR and I know where a lot of these scenes were filmed. Pretty devastating! I would think this is the end for this ship.

 It would be more costly to replace. I'm guessing they tow it over to NASSCO where it will spend the next three years.

Maybe it will join LHA 3, USS BELLEAU WOOD, my ship about 90 miles northwest of the Big Island where it was sunk and became an artificial reef.

That's a better fate than my old ride, USS Saratoga (CV-60). Towed down to Brownsville and cut up for scrap.

They are hardly recognizable as Forrestal class carriers.

With tbe extensive heat damage to the metal id be surprised if it can be reworked.
Im sure you probably know this.
But heat can alter the strength and properties of the metal.
They have a scanning maxhine that you hold on it.
We have lost cranes that the scanner projected metal deficiency.they were in much better shape than that.
But being interior im not sure what the tolerance would be if any. I find it hard to believe it hasnt been structuraly damaged.

The company I work for was involved a few years ago when they started towing them down to Brownsville, but I had to check the status on Wikipedia.

Forrestal class
Forrestal - scrapped in 2014
Saratoga - scrapped in 2015
Ranger - scrapped in 2017
Independence - scrapped in 2019

Kitty Hawk class
Kitty Hawk - struck, to be scrapped
Constellation - scrapped in 2015
America - sunk as a target in 2005
Kennedy - struck, to be scrapped

Enterprise - struck, disposal plans not determined.

Can you perhaps get a reading on how we might be able to cut the military budget and shift those funds to helpful programs, like say, healthcare, homelessness, and veteran's benefits? Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder can. LOL
