Let's talk about QBs. On another thread it was discussed that the some QBs are quite the athlete but his team can't work for him. If you are on Twitter, there are plenty of posts about various QBs working out with trainers and showing highlights. What do you think? Can you create a quality QB with training? Or is it a combination of team plus an arm?

IMO a QB has to be smart and pretty mature to be effective. If you have a kid that only wants to make highlight films, I can't see how he can lead his team. I've watched plenty of no name QBs show unbelievable talent when pressed to make a throw on the run or get up after a nasty hit and throw again. I think those kids are just different to start with.

imo has to be the right combination of DNA, coaching/training, style of offense. Lot's of factors, but your QB has to fit your system

The QB is the most important part of a successful team. If you don't have one, forget it

and yes they can be trained by the right person/coach. Kyle Richardson, when he was at NW was the master at developing QB's for his air raid system. The results speak for themselves

Now kids can fly all over the country and get training from people other than their coach. Does this help and is it effective? Absolutely

Then there is an unseen quality of leadership. Some guys can come in the game and you can see it lift the spirits of the whole team

I believe thats why a lot of baseball pitchers pkay qb.the ability ti not get rattled.and forget about last pitch/pass.
Next play.plus the time on the mound and pressure translates well.imho not to mention a strong arm.

I know kids who have gone to David Cutcliffe's QB college in the summer and it does make a difference. That one is really something.
He only takes 80 kids at a time. They all wear the same t shirt. It's indoors in the practice facility and there is no music blaring - just an air horn every few minutes telling the kids to move to the next drill. They spend time in the classroom as well and break down film. It's really top notch.

Compare that to Dabo football camp where it's loud music and flashy hair and cleats. Atmosphere is totally different, but at Dabo camp they do break the groups down to a small size which lets these kids get in a lot of reps. Not much exposure unless you are a phenom since there are a thousand kids there.

Then you have your combines at say Wofford where it's no instruction but timing long jumps and 40s.

Absolutely agree with this. Baseball is mostly mental especially on the mound or at the plate.

QBs usually have the reputation of being the pretty boys and not being the toughest guys on the team. I would disagree. It takes toughness to get up after a hit and make a throw or run for your life when the line lets you down.

No quarterback can shine when they're running for their life on every play. The better coached defenses might get burned a few times but if the they can pin their ears back and go after the guy on every play he's going to have a difficult putting up numbers, much less winning games. Clover's QB last year was a prime example of being on the right team at the right time.

Works the opposite way too. Look at Tom Brady.
