Daniel vs BHP

Post by stretch »

The Lions have a chance to win the region outright this week against BHP. I was at the game Saturday between them and Wren, and it was a sloppy game on both sides of the ball for BHP. Now granted they only had I believe 3 days of practice after sitting out for almost 3 weeks so I wasn’t too surprised by that. There is some bad blood from the last meeting where there was a fight while Daniel was celebrating on the Bears home field so I wouldn’t be surprised if this game gets chippy early. I still expect this to be another good game between the two teams and hopefully my Lions can come out on top for another region championship!

The Lions go back to back in region. Game was never in doubt and the team looked great tonight. Next week we play Berea and then an open week after that due to the TL Hanna cancellation. Hopefully they can find a game for that week but if not they have extra time to prepare for the playoffs.

I know Daniel is very good, but what is going on at BHP? Is that program just going through a period where they just have less talent than they normally have?

Daniel is just very good right now . And their program is deep and filled with kids coming up that will continue for the near future . Their jv is undefeated this year and those games have all been blowouts. As far as BHP goes they are big and plenty of numbers but the talent level looks like it has fallen off a little. Plus their offensive scheme and what their trying to accomplish is puzzling. They don’t seem to set up 2nd and 3rd down off of 1st down. They’ve always been a power running team but like last night Daniel was up 21-0 early in the 2nd quarter and they had no way to respond. In fact the two tds they got were late on second and third string guys . One of those was penalty aided. They may need a new look on offense . Add in that they were sitting for two weeks with only 1 game under their belt and have to face Wren and Daniel back to back, well that’s not a formula for success.

Their offense was just the same plays every drive on repeat. At their game last week they did the same thing but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was their first game back but they looked just as bad. I believe next week they have to play Walhalla, and if I were an offensive coach for BHP I should be nervous about coming back next season if they don’t show up in that game.

Yall are probably right. Sometimes I forget how the different ways that districts have reacted to Covid have put some teams at a great disadvantage to their competition. Some schools like Broome actually got killed by it. Union barely had any practice before their first game. And others have been hurt to different degrees. I usually complain about how anybody with a heart beat gets in the playoffs, but this is the one year they should expand the playoffs and let everybody in.

I actually like the fact that it less teams. This is the way it used to be . But the conferences were actually 8 team with only 2 getting in . Then they took away a regular season game that cost all schools money because the hsl wanted their extra cut . And many , not all of those playoff games were blow outs . I say keep it this way especially with 5 and 6 team regions.

My God I saw on Broome’s social media that they have a game today then on Wednesday 10/28, then the next Monday 11/2 and Friday 11/6 just to make up region games. I don’t have a problem with a condensed playoffs but teams like Greenville who could be a player for 4A have to miss out makes me feel just awful for the players on that team.

Greenville not getting in the playoffs Is fine by me . The Expectations have never matched the hype . And they are the kings of the third round choke job.

Ditto on Greenville. That is one team I don't feel sorry for not getting in the playoffs. But do agree with a poster above. This is the one year where I do wish the playoffs were expanded. Some teams never missed a beat from the start of practice. Others barely got any preseason practice. Some good teams are just now getting things sorted out, but it is already too late. But it is what it is.
