Gray Collegiate at Newberry

Newberry will return to action (fingers crossed) this Friday night after missing the last 3 weeks. They will host Gray Collegiate in a huge game. Gray is 4-0 in the region, and can wrap up the championship this week. Newberry is 1-0 with a win over Columbia, but they haven't played a game since September 24th. I know everybody in Newberry is ready for the team to get back on the field, and the players are excited, but that is a long time between games. Hopefully the Bulldogs don't have to much rust to shake off and can give the War Eagles a game.

Rust kills. Hate to say it, but Gray wins going away in this one.

I hope you're wrong, but I don't see a way that the layoff doesn't hurt us bad. They just started back to practice Friday, so they will have 5-6 practices after all that time off.

Much respect for Newberry. I remember them for ending Fairfield Central's long winning streak. The reason that I said what I said, is out of "who" Newberry is coming off a long layoff to play. Worse case scenario. I always think of games like this is the sense that losing to a very good team is actually better for your team, than beating the brakes off of a really poor team. Of course, that is a long term scenario. This season is a short term scenario. Good luck. Hope that it is a good game.

I was in middle school when they ended the Fairfield winning streak, the atmosphere at that game was crazy. Yeah, it's going to be a strange few weeks, we have to make up 3 games in a 2 week period (Saluda, Batesburg, and Eau Claire).

I heard last night that Newberry's game with Eau Claire will not be made up. From what I heard, Eau Claire is playing Columbia Friday night and are done after that. Newberry will host Gray Collegiate this week, travel to Saluda next week, and then will travel to Batesburg-Leesville the following week. If they don't make the playoffs, they will play Mid Carolina on Nov 13.

Halftime update, 14-14. Newberry with a goal line stop to end the half.

Gray wins 34-28. Congrats to them for winning the region. The timing was off for Newberry most of the night, which I expected with only 5-6 practices since September 24 and no game action.

Back to work, a trip to Saluda awaits next week which is huge for both teams.
