Daniel vs Chapman

Well we’ve finally made it here. Daniel is traveling to Inman this week to face off with Chapman. The top two teams in 3A this season play for a shot at the upperstate championship game.
The last time these teams played was in 2013 where the Lions won to go on to state 29-27. I have a feeling this game can be just as good if not better than that game.
Both teams come in undefeated with a potent offense and a stingy defense. Chapman has been winning games by the average score of 44-12. While Daniel has been winning their games by average scores of 56-15. I highly doubt the score will be that lopsided in this game.
Chapman has the big game experience. The Senior class for the Panthers has been to Columbia twice and knows what it takes to get there. Daniel has to go earn it this week. They’ve been close the last 2 years in 4A but this years team has it all clicking on both sides of the ball and can’t blow it this year.
This game can go either way. I think it’s going to start out slow with either side trying to feel out the opponent. The team that has the ball last will be the winner in my opinion. It’s gonna be a tight one and I hope it’s gonna be a (covid-19 regulated) packed house to watch this game because it’s gonna be a can’t miss.

Onion this Daniel team is better than the one you saw two years ago. Chapman is not as good as the south pointe team you saw us beat that night. That’ is all.

They surely aren’t South Pointe but I’ll never underestimate a team in the playoffs especially after last season. Our boys will be ready Friday and my brother is telling me how the team confidence is through the roof heading into this game. Hopefully the confidence won’t turn to cockiness by the time the ball is kicked off.

I saw last year coming. Once Venables got hurt it killed the rpo offense . Then throw in more injuries the first two weeks of the playoffs and we were never the same. That team was much bigger and more athletic than what we will see Friday. I’m not taking Chapman lightly but they have not face anyone our size depth and talent this year.

The Six Mile/Central/Cateechee juggernaut...man, Chapman vs Daniel...they break the scoreboard. Would be fun to watch.

It’s been since 98 with 5 overall titles. Since the arrival of Allen Sitterle in 1990 I believe Daniel is I’m the top 5 in wins in the stare- we squandered a lot of opportunities during Randy Robinson’s run . Crazy win percentage but no great signature wins. Had Deandre Hopkins for three years and couldn’t get it done. I honestly feel Daniel should have closer to ten titles by now. Jeff Fruster the current coach has a different mentality. Of course he was a player for Sitterle in the 90s.

We should’ve had probably 3 or 4 with Coach Rob. He made the right move getting out of Daniel because he saw what was about to come for the team over the next few years and he didn’t want to be apart of it. He left Fru to clean up his mess and it was ugly for the first two years.
My senior year we finally “drained the swamp” of all the players and coaches that had picked up bad habits from playing or coaching for Coach Rob and we knew it would be a turnaround year. Page Wofford was just the cherry on top and we made it to upperstate.
We could’ve won it the past two years but we were just not ready for it in 2018 and fell short against Greer and 2019 was just a mixture of unfortunate things happening at once and we fell to a Ridge View team they had already beaten before.
Win or lose this year Daniel will be a force for the coming years. We have a great young group on varsity and more coming from JV squad. As well as the middle school team, whose coach is also a former Sitterle player, always has the kids ready to make the jump to high school.
