Already looking ahead... I think the Lions lose 8 starters off the roster, However they have over 60 juniors and sophomores in their program that should be returning. On offense they have at WR Merck, Spadafina, and Jaylen Brown Wallace .... which will be the best set in the state. At RB they have Chris Edge and Tory Shaw back. 4 OL starters plus a huge Jv line coming up . The Starting Qb 2700 yds 35 tds in 8 games is back as well.
On defense , they don’t lose their anchors Griffin Batt and Jaqueim Lawson, and they have several starters back like Logan Lasher , Brody Conn, Boston Miller , Misehm Kelly , plus several others with significant playing time. Rock solid group!
Looking at contenders , in the lower state .... Camden maybe?
Upper state, recent history points toward Wren and Chapman , but we know how that story will end.
Ok, ok ... I can hear the potential groans ... so I will add
Woodruff , Gilbert , and Dillon . That being said, Daniel should have the best chance to win the 3a title of all the teams....
Love The Lions...

I got my State Champions shirt and car sticker today and I wouldn’t mind picking up another shirt and sticker a year from now.
The few holes on offense and defense left by seniors already had great depth. The safety and mike linebacker positions will be up for grabs during spring ball and summertime. I think they will move Brodey Conn down to nickel linebacker and take Logan Lasher and move him to inside backer. This way they can have a player with varsity linebacker experience should they choose to go this route and he can learn and adjust to inside backer. The transition for Brodey won’t be too difficult since the position isn’t too different.
I think next season the only challengers for the upperstate title will be teams from region 3 like Chapman, Union County and Woodruff. The lowerstate will more than likely have Camden, Dillon, and Oceanside. I could be dead wrong about these teams and maybe Carolina High and Battery Creek could be Daniel’s biggest threat.
It’s all in their hands though. They know they can get it done because they’ve done it before and they’ve been in the big games. This rising Senior class has lost 3 games in their career so winning is something they’re used to and as Vince Lombardi said, “winning is a habit.”

I liked your assessment of the upcoming season. Realizing they lose a few seniors but from my understanding the jv class is just as talented and bringing up some new weapons.
Wren should be back in running next year, as will Chapman, but they might honestly be broken after what happened to them. Camden should be back.. Hoping the Lions schedule Hanna again next year. Lions would have dismantled TLH this year. Dont think TLH saw an offense as explosive as Ddubs all year. Play some of bigger schools up in nonconference, way Sitterle use to do. I would have liked the Lions chances against any one this year. This team was definitely special and seemed to be having fun out there, you could just tell. The way they blew out all their opponents, was a long way from Dick Singleton offense I am familiar with.
Lions should be favored to win and should be 2nd in state to start season. But it only matters where they finish in the end.
