Of interest to some folks here.
Former Greenwood Coach, Gene Cathcart will be playing for 4A Georgia State Championship today at 3:30pm.
His Jefferson team is (12-0) and will be taking on Marist (12-0) that is also undefeated.
Also of interest, for those that follow recruiting, the QB for Jefferson (Cathcart's team) is a highly touted player.
Malaki Starks is listed as a 4 or 5-star athlete.(depending on the recruiting service).
He has narrowed his college choices to Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia.
Jefferson's top offense vs. Marist's No. 1 defense for Class 4A title

-The War Eagles defense has surrendered just 2.8 points per game, and thatβs all season. The Dragons, on the other hand, are scoring a Class 4A best 44 ppg.

Different coach.
Cathcart left some years ago to take the job at Seneca High School.
Which was closer to where his kids were living. I believe they lived in North Georgia.
He left Seneca for Jefferson(GA), where he spent some time as an offensive coordinator before taking over as head coach.
Many Greenwood fans seemed to be more like this for Cathcart....

Good close game for 3 quarters.
Marist defense is the Real Deal.
For those that didn't get to watch...
Too many mistakes down the stretch for Jefferson to overcome.
Credit to Marist's defense. Really good physical defense.
It was 14 to 14 late in the 3rd quarter.
Jefferson had the ball around their own 8 yard line.
A Jefferson player was about to be tackled for a loss at his own 4 yard line when he decided to backtrack into his own end zone and tried to cut towards the other side of the field. He was tackled for a Safety. 16-14 Marist.
Next series for Jefferson resulted in a fumble deep in their own territory.
A couple plays later 23-14 Marist.
Marist put the icing on the cake later in the 4th with a TD for the 30-14 final.
Good season for Cathcart and the Jefferson Dragons.
Congrats to Marist.
