A way too early look at the 5A contenders to challenge the Silver Foxes...DF should return a strong team on both sides of the ball. I want to hear what you think...
Upper State:
* Hanna- They are the defending Upper State Champions, so until someone unseats them...got to keep them near the top. I know those lose a good number of seniors but they have some solid returning underclassmen. In the post-game interviews, Will Taylor summed it up best from the internet chatter prior to the game, "Hanna said they wanted some, so we gave'em some..."...If they had played on a dry field, it would have been truly ugly.
* Dorman- I believe Dorman loses a fair number of seniors as well, but they have been regulars in the title game and always give DF problems. Good talent pool at a strong coaching staff.
* Gaffney- I think someone earlier mentioned that Gaffney was losing a good number of seniors, but they will always find a way it seems
* Byrnes- They were down last season, very down. They lost to 3A Camden. I had watch video of a Camden scrimmage at the beginning of the season, and honestly I guess they looked ok for a 3A team, but DF would have mopped the floor with them. Byrnes has some work to do.
* Northwestern- Quietly returning to their old status of a perennial contender. I don't believe graduation hit them extremely hard so look out.
* The Remainder of the I-77 Region- Northwestern's region was the strongest in the state by far top to bottom. Ridge View, Blythewood, Spring Valley and Rock Hill. I realize RH was winless but looking at their schedule and the scores, they may have been the best winless team in the nation, let alone SC..haha.
Lower State:
* Fort Dorchester- The one team DF fans always look to as the biggest threat to prevent them from winning the state title. Talent Pool, and a great coaching staff. Fort D always has ball players ...they don't rebuild, they just reload.
* River Bluff- The Gators are putting together a program of substance across the dam from DF. If you can beat a LaPrad Fort D team, you are for real.
* Carolina Forest- CF, like RB, is developing a program that has to be reckoned with each season. Good staff, good fans, good resources, good talent... makings of another excellent program. Not sure what they lost, but they seem to have broken the code.
* Sumter- I know Sumter loses some key players, but they seem to always find a way, and should have some solid talent returning. We will see what 2021 has in store for them.
*The Traditional Standard Bearers- Lower State football has to keep Summerville and Berkeley in the mix. Summerville and DF have a good rivalry going, of which the Silver Foxes have been getting the better of Summerville for several seasons...but fun to watch.
Let me hear your thoughts on 2021 5A!

I am not sure that it matters. I think if somebody was going to get DF, this past year was their best opportunity for the next couple years.

Considering what all transpired last season...
A 4-4 record with a coaching staff new to the program...
They pretty much had to learn on the fly.
But were only 1 play from beating Fort....
Dominated Berkeley the second half .
Lost in overtime against Goose Creek.
And went to Dutch Fork and only trailed 14-7 AT THE half..
And were only down 28-7 going to the 4th...
I saw alot of promise for the Wave program for the coming season...
Offense returns the 2 Qbs and alot of young Running backs that came on late.
The offensive line will return 3 starters and a couple other big size kids that got some playing time.... Receivers will need some attention but some promise.
Defense will return 7 starters ..good size in the D line and most of the Dbs....
Linebacker will be the most need...
Things should be bright For the Wave this coming Season.
Lowcountry wise Fort is still probably the team to beat.
State wide Dutch Fork is the focus team to get to state...

Fort and Ville have the players, but do they have the brain power to accomplish knocking off DF? So, far the answer has been no

I think Dutch Fork will be the favorites again in 2021 to win the 5A Football State Title. I agree the best bet for a Lowcountry Team is Fort Dorchester. But I do think the 5A Lowcountry Teams (Charleston Area) will be a little down this upcoming year. We shall see. I will be rooting for the Lowcountry Teams to do well though. Until someone beats them Dutch Fork will be the TOP DAWGS of 5A.

I think upstate will have be a toss up. Gaffney, Dorman graduated some key players but those schools never lack the talent!
Spartanburg is a team that may surprise us all this year! Coach Hodge, will get them back ;how soon it could be next year!
TL Hanna/NW kinda just went under the radar ...so I expect both teams to be in the mix!
Byrnes return a ton of pieces on both sides, QB , a RB that may be best we seen in a while , 4 OL that should be brutal , 3 very fast athletic Wr's
A ton of questions?????? Could be approaching that time for Coach Shaw! Fan base thinks this year team should compete for a state championship.
