North Carolina debating getting rid of their version of the SCHSL
They are debating eliminating, and replacing, NCs version of the SCHSL. In the legislative committee right now. Money handling is an issue, along with basic incompetence in the department where decisions on discipline seem to be inconsistent, and actions that seem to focus more on their organization than what is in the best interest for the kids. Food for thought is anybody in SC cares to think about it.

Maybe the part I like the best is that part of this is to isolate all the private and academy type recruiting schools into their own classification. Would live to see the same be done in SC to put the brakes on those type of schools here.
Re: North Carolina debating getting rid of their version of the SCHSL
I have been extra vocal in my opposition to allowing "Academy" style schools to be in the same Divisions as "Normal" High Scools. Allowing schools that openly recruit players, subsidize tuitions, and that have no attendance zones, to compete against schools that do none of the above, is tantamount to allowing professional athletes to compete against amatuer athletes.
It is my opinion that these "Academies" have the right to exist, and I would never say different. I think that it is a great opportunity for gifted athletes to have a platform to showcase their abilities against other gifted athletes. My problem comes when they are allowed to showcase that talent against those who have neither the abilities, the extended practice and preparation times, nor access to superior coaching staffs.
Grouping these "Academy" schools together and forcing them to compete with similar programs, within, and without, the traditional state boundaries, is a fair and admirable choice. Let's see how Oceanside lines up against IMG, or other such programs. Beaufort High's 2021 football schedule, pits our Eagles against 2 such foes, Oceanside from Awenda, SC, and Benedictine, from Savannah, Georgia. This is becoming far too commonplace, and needs to be discontinued.
Taking this argument to a somewhat political level, one has to ask why High School students who excel in academics are not offored such opportunities. As a High School student who excelled academically myself, finding myself only 1 credit shy of graduating as a Junior, I was offored only 1 choice for an advanced class during my Senior year. Oh, I could have taken classes that were less advanced to earn my Diploma, don't misunderstand me. I wound up taking 2 classes at USCB during the morning hours, one Chemistry class on Tu and TH mornings, and a Calculus class on M, W, & Fr. After lunch, I went to Beaufort High for an advanced Biology class, then bolted to go to work in the afternoons.
Back to my pet peeve about these "Acadamies". They exist purely, and solely, for money. There is no money in academics at the High School level. But there is a pot of gold out there for athletics. Not just from gate receipts, but from tuitions, fees, and other sources like fundraisers and the like. Hats off to whatever person, or persons, came up with this scheme to make money. Taking advantage of families with huge dilusions of fortunes to be made by little Johnny, or Billy Bob. But the percentages are against them, and once the fleecing is done, it cannot be undone. And for all of those families who never see a dime back in the way of compensation, I offer my most sincere, "I Told You So". For those who excel and manage to sucede in their athletic endeavor, I say, "Bravo", for you will have earned it.

Re: North Carolina debating getting rid of their version of the SCHSL
Something very similar to what you are suggesting was proposed this year to the SCHSL. While this is far from the SCHSL, the responses here were an adamant, "no way". Getting schools on board may be less challenging than getting fans on board.

Re: North Carolina debating getting rid of their version of the SCHSL
That is what I was saying. Judging by the responses here, a definite no-go. But the SCHSL has never used any input from fans to make decisions in the past. They won't now, either.
I could not access your Google Sheet.

Re: North Carolina debating getting rid of their version of the SCHSL
From what I understand from a pretty good source, the deal in NC will not go through. It is merely a Trojan horse issue where they can protect against all of the crazy transgender going on without upsetting too many democrats Charlotte and Raleigh.
Re: North Carolina debating getting rid of their version of the SCHSL
Funny how that works, isn't it? Democrats fight for equal rights, equal opportunuities, and equal justice, for EVERYONE, yet there is always that "special" group that think only SOME people should should have all of those privileges.

Interesting proposal but I am curious about what you based your realignment on? If you used the numbers for 9-11 only North Augusta was bigger than Greenwood. Ashley Ridge is bigger than Fort Dorchester. Stall is not even included and is currently a AAAAA. I am sure there are others that fit this situation too. Just curious.

Re: North Carolina debating getting rid of their version of the SCHSL
Maybe I am not understanding what he was trying to say, but my take on it was that Schools that outperform their Class by enrollment numbers, such as Abbeville, could be moved up in classification until such time as they can no longer compete at the next level, while those that underproduce, like Riverside, should be moved down in classification until such time as they become over competitive in the new classification.
Something very similar was proposed to,or by, I forget, this last re-alignment. All this would happen while trying to maintain Regions in close proxemity. This could produce a much more balanced slate of Classifications in just a few short years. I feel certain that this would have to be used for Football only as other sports are far more evenly matched due to the number of athletes required for other sports.
I have to admit that I like this proposal because of the higher number of competitive games. Less chalk, and less games decided on paper before the game is even played. Kind of like the lower number of playoff teams. Better games and an overall better spectator experience.
