Don't get the lower-state hype year in and year out.

No disrespect but I think your #'s 3-6 would be lucky to make playoffs if they replaced Columbia or Eau Claire in Region 3. Before the realignment, they would have been lucky to have a winning season. Hate to be blunt, but that's just my 2 cents based on what I've seen from the programs so far.

To me, the top 3 teams belong to Abbeville, Saluda, and Gray. Saluda was down last year but have solidified themselves as legit contenders year in and year out. I think Newberry and Batesburg will take a step forward this year also, but there's still a gap between them and the elite. Batesburg has proven they can win the big game, after beating the champs of Saluda in 2019 and dominating them last year in a turnover fest. Not sure they can win the big game when it counts, but would still wager B&L could beat nearly every lower state elite.

Saluda will also have a coming out party after relying on a talented but small *freshman* QB to guide them through the last year. Turnover prone but skillful offense didn't make the playoffs for the first time in a while last year, but will prove to have made many strides since then. You can bet your bottom dollar they will be back with a vengeance this year, and they are my favorite to give Abbeville a run for it's money. Gray also has a shot to beat Abbeville, and are arguably the most talented team in the state. Talent doesn't win football games though, and to politely put it, the way they harvest players hinders them as much as it helps. Still, keep an eye on them as they will make a deep run in the playoffs.

Sad as it is, the 2A classification has become a race to win upperstate. Some good lower state programs with consistent success, but none of which can even compete with the likes of Abbeville, Saluda, or Gray. At least until proven otherwise. Only time will tell, but I think this poll will look a lot different come December.

My unpopular top 10: (Not a talent poll, not a % to win title poll, just a top 10 teams poll)

1. Abbeville
2. Gray C
3. Saluda
4. Batesburg
5. Newberry
6. Barnwell
7. Marion
8. Andrews
9. Silver Bluff
10. Christ Church
