Daniel vs Seneca

It’s rivalry week. Daniel and Seneca will face off for the 72nd time this year and this years game might be uglier than last year.

Daniel has broken the scoring record in this rivalry the past 3 seasons by putting up 51 in 2018, 56 in 2019, then 76 last season. It’ll be hard to break the record for the 4th consecutive year but I hope we go for it. Also, this senior class has a chance to go undefeated against Seneca, which is something that hasn’t been done in a long time.

Seneca is coming in to this game with a 5-1 record. All 5 wins come against not so great teams and their lone loss was to Easley who Daniel beat earlier this year. They have a receiver who has a couple big offers who hasn’t played the last couple of games and I’m not sure if he’ll be back for this week. The big boys up front better be ready for this DL because there hasn’t been a team yet to contain them yet.

Daniel is undefeated and rolling. The offense has been unstoppable and there’s little chance Seneca will be the one to cause issues. The Bobcats are not ready for what they have coming this Friday when the Lions come out in the all black jerseys and they spot the ball.

My score prediction is Daniel-80 Seneca-14

Daniel has not played a single talented team...that may bite them, but not during the regular season. Wren may be the best team they play. Duluth and Hendersonville are underwhelming at best. Daniel was tied with Easley at the half and that is...well, unimpressive. They should handle Seneca, but beating Emerald and Wahalla and sub-par out of state teams will give a team a false sense of security. Lions need to play someone.

However, Seneca gets handled this week.

35-14 Win. Wasn’t pretty, but at the end of the day I’ll take an ugly win.

Yup...DF had 3 turnovers and about 150 yds in penalties against Spartanburg ....ugly...was up 42-0 somehow in the second half and won 42-13. Coach Knotts but in the 2nd string because he was sick of watching the first string get a flag every other play.

Far fewer penalties this week against White Knoll...was up 40-0 at half and 60-0 in the third...starting putting in subs early in the second quarter. WK is better than last year but still a long way to go. Coach Pelham will get them there.

The thing about the penalties tonight is they were always coming when we had a good play. Whether it was a good completion or a nice run we couldn’t get any momentum because of the refs throwing questionable flags.

I am worried about the run defense because they would just get 4,5, or 6 year runs and score. It was aggravating tonight, but this rivalry game was competitive and Crane has done a good job building that team back after tons of coaches coming and going. Still hate them Bobcats though.

Let me preface what I’m about to say by saying that referees have a tough job. They are underpaid and get all the grief in the world.They are actually at their best when their not apart of deciding games or how they are played.

All that being said , I was so upset with what I saw last night it was disgusting. It’s time for the SCHSL to start focusing on things that actually matter like great well paid refs than whatever it is that their trying to muck up next.

I witnessed last night a one sided flag throwing session.
And some calls that weren’t made that didn’t have anything to do with a penalty but just a missed calls.

This game should’ve been about 60-14 but the stripes made it clear early on that they were going to keep it close.

The most egregious call of all came with about 3 minutes left in the game.
We hit their Qb for a sack and the ball goes backwards a good 5-6 yds
Lawson picks it up and on his way to the house
The ref blows the play dead and calls it an incomplete pass.

Seneca ran the ball 50 times
Zero that’s 0 that’s zilch holding calls

That must be the greatest execution by an oline ever

Glad we won we were out of rhythm because every big play we hit had a flag 20 yds behind the play

12 penalties for 120 plus yards
But the hidden yards
We’re probably another 150 plus

Seneca fans were actually acting like they won going out because they kept it to three Td loss

Let's be honest. Refs rarely decide the outcome of a game...rarely. That determination is made in practice and preparation. DF has had a ton of penalties this season...because they are wired to attack...be it offense or defense. DF had far fewer penalties this week. Penalties or no penalties, the Foxes respond. Even with that flag-fest against Spartanburg it was 42-0 with 4 minutes remaining in the third and they took the foot off the gas. You overcome penalties.

Seneca has the athletes to match DWD, just not the coaching...being 21-14 going into the 4th was slightly surprising, but not a shocker. Daniel hasn't played a talented, well-coached team with depth. Will be interesting when and if they do. Will show their true fortitude. Just not sure if 3A has that this season.
