I predict that the SCHSL will find a way to make things worse.

Seriously, there is not a way to make it without someone thinking that they were "screwed over" as the teams are not spread out evenly enough. If you look at making another Big 16 or Big 24 then you end up with Carolina Forest on an island by themselves. 5A, 4A as it currently stands you end up with a 5A that is pretty balanced and an unbalanced 7 Region 4A. But the I-77 Region with Rock Hill and Northwestern in a Region with Columbia area teams, those guys might not agree with 5A being pretty balanced.

Without seeing the numbers, I'm not sure how much change we will have in number of schools (I think Fountain Inn, a split off Mauldin and Hillcrest, will be opening). I'm thinking 5A will pretty much stay the same.

prediction: those that get to play down will be happy. those that have to play up will not be

if no major complaints are coming in about regions , then look for more of the same

When does Georgia do realignment?

Selfishly as a fan near the NC border, I’d love to see our realignment match up with theirs, even better if we don’t already match up with GHSA and can kill 2 birds with 1 stone and match up with both border states.

I’d sacrifice 1 three-year realignment period to make this happen.

Georgia doesn't do theirs again until the 2022 season.

I wonder how they will divide up the kids in Timmonsville. One or more of the Florence 1 schools could move up to 5A.

Easiest way to do it ( fair and equitable) is to take the number of schools and divide by 5 equally. You will have some winners and losers but at least you can mathematically defend it. To many times it gets political and you can see where schools are being done favors because of who there State representative is in SC.

It's a lot more complex than that.

They take the 9th - 11th grade population, then they add some other factors as well, then they take 40 for 5A, last time is was 39 for 4A and 40 for 3A and 2A and the remaining were 1A.

Where the issues lie is that the locations of those in 5A for example get difficult to put into balanced Regions.... i.e. Rock Hill and Northwestern are much closer to Fort Mill and Nation Ford and Clover than Spring Valley, Blythewood and Ridge View; however, Boiling Springs and Gaffney were added to Ft Mill, NF and Clover, driving past Rock Hill to get to NF and Clover????
