I have to say that the Newberry band has been much improved this year. The new director is doing a good job. Granted I can't really hear them from where I sit, but people have been saying good things. I know a few years back they didn't/couldn't play the alma mater correctly, but that has changed.

The band has turned into a different animal than what it was years ago. Back when, everything was focused on Friday night, and a support source for the team. Dressing in full uniforms. Nowadays, bands don't break out their full dress except maybe for homecoming. They roll out each week in shorts and t shirts. It is all about the band competitions and the halftime is little more than practice for that. The school I follow has done the same show for all three home games this season in that pursuit. And then they take the while 3rd quarter off I suppose to recover from their energy draining halftime show. And I have also noticed that a lot of schools don't take their bands on the road anymore. I have heard every excuse for that from Covid concerns, to a lack of bus drivers, to just not wanting the expense of an extra bus, or two. But with the bands, their focus these days are the band competitions, not football games like the old days.

That makes sense . Out band starting playing while we were snapping the ball a few times . They heard about it too.
I miss whrn they had pride.you play every day like its a competition .otherwise why bother .if your not giving your best every outing thrn how do you expect to compete.

I love hearing the Bands at Football Games. But I agree, it seems like a lot of Kids don't like being a part of the Band anymore. When I was in High School, Beaufort had 302 Students in their Marching Band. As of today Beaufort has 32 Students in their Marching Band.

. That is a huge drop. I wish that more people would join the Band. It is a little different story though at Colleton County High School. The Colleton County Band has a Big Student turnout in their Marching Band. It seems like more people care about the Band at Colleton County High School then the Cougar Sports Teams. That is good to see for the Colleton County Band. They have a Huge Following. Hopefully, Beaufort can be like that one day. But I would love to see a Big Turnout for Band and all the other Sports.
GO BEAUFORT EAGLES!!!!
