That's one, of course, and while I would like to share your confidence in "winning big" I'm going to act more like a coach and say it may be the biggest game we've played this season. Northwestern was big for "ranking purposes" but rankings are political and not that important to me. I understand them, even try to get a SCPREPTALK TOP TEN every week, but deep down, I understand they are not worth a whole lot. Region Championships lead to more home playoff games and it's better to be at home than go to them!
Other games that could shake the brackets include:
Hanna - Easley - While no one sees this as the game to determine the Region Championship, Region One gets four bids to the playoffs.... as of right now, I'd say 1) Hillcrest, 2) Greenwood, 3) Laurens, and 4) Woodmont or the winner of this game! You have to think the loser is probably NOT going to make the playoffs. Think of it as you are a softball team and you lost your first game and you fall to what we always called the losers bracket, now called the "elimination game!"
Mauldin - Dorman - Will the Mavericks catch Dorman still down from last week's loss? Mauldin's only loss is to Hillcrest, who just beat Greenwood and almost beat Dorman.... Personally I wouldn't take Mauldin and 13.5 points, but this is high school football and I wouldn't have taken Hillcrest and 3 against Dorman or Greenwood and I would have lost on both of those games!
South Pointe - Northwestern - Remember last year? I'm betting the Trojans do...
White Knoll - Spring Valley - Two 5-0 teams that no one seems to be mentioning at all. Are either of them "REALLY GOOD"? or is it just that they have played some really bad teams?
White Knoll A.C. Flora
White Knoll Mid-Carolina
White Knoll Airport
White Knoll Carolina Forest
White Knoll Lugoff-Elgin
Spring Valley Lower Richland
Spring Valley Clover
Spring Valley Lexington
Spring Valley Westwood
Spring Valley South Aiken
Stratford - Summerville You figure Summerville is the odds on favorite for Region 8 unless Fort Dorchester finally quits choking and actually beats Summerville (sorry dfactor, it's just every time I pick you guys you let me down!) A loss would cost the Wave a full point in seeding and could mean a road game if they make it to the Friday after Thanksgiving instead of hosting someone.... NOT THAT I SEE THAT HAPPENING!
So, there you go... now I'll sharpen my pencil and pick these and about 125 other games to see what the bracket projection might look like.
Keep in mind:
The top four (4) eligible teams from Regions I, II, & III
and the top three (3) eligible teams from Regions IV, V, VI, VII, & VIII
will advance to the AAAA playoffs. {Which means, because some Regions get 4 bids, some "questionable teams" may get automatic bids and leave "a better team" on the outside looking in...}
Five (5) additional “at large” teams will also be selected to complete the thirty-two (32) teams that will advance to the AAAA State playoffs. The five (5) “at large” teams will be selected using the points system currently used by AAAA.
For this projection, I’m going with the following as
Region Champions---Runner Up—other automatic bids
Hillcrest----------Greenwood-------Laurens--------Woodmont
Byrnes-----------Spartanburg------Gaffney---------Dorman
Northwestern---York----------------South Pointe-- Nation Ford
Spring Valley----Blythewood-------Irmo
Dutch Fork-------North Augusta---Lexington
South Florence--Sumter-----------West Florence
Goose Creek-----Stratford---------West Ashley
Fort Dorchester--Summerville-----Beaufort
At Large teams:
Ashley Ridge
Boiling Springs
Mauldin
Rock Hill
White Knoll
After the thirty-two (32) teams are selected, the sixteen largest schools by enrollment of the thirty-two selected will compete for the Division I State Championship and the other 16 are placed in Division II.
The brackets (and this should prove to you that I pick them and let then fall where they fall)
DIVISION ONE
1 Byrnes
16 White Knoll
8 Dorman
9 Lexington
4 Hillcrest
13 West Ashley
5 Spring Valley
12 Gaffney
=============================================
