End of Season
End of Season
With 2 weeks left is there any known openings for next season. Do not want to discuss any coaches on the proverbial hotseat just common knowledge.
Re: End of Season
Why not discuss the hot seat? That time of year. A lot of folks got a pass because of Covid last year. Am sure some will play that card to save themselves again this year. But it is time to talk about what programs are in need of new leadership.

Newberry. Coach Strickland has already announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Big Dog if i was y’all I would seriously look at the DC at Clinton. I heard him interview a couple weeks back and seems like a solid guy . Other than that maybe the coach at Southside Christian maybe if he would leave.

Clinton is a reflection of Corey Fountain. Go after him if you can but don't think the DC is the difference there.
As far as the Southside Christian coach, not being at a private school in a county with a million high schools like Greenville would inhibit his recruiting program tremendously.

Re: End of Season
He is a really good guy. I've known him for a LONG time, and coached against him in my past life.
It's going to be interesting to see where everything ends up. I don't think fans around here appreciate the fact we have had 2 very good coaches back to back. Add the fact that we have only had 2 head coaches since 1989, and both won a lot of games. Sam Baird had a solid 180+ win career with a few semi final appearances and 1 state runner up finish. Phil Strickland is a legend, took us to 2 state title games, and was about 6 inches from another.
I don't have a clue where we will go next. I have my opinion on what I would like to see us do, but I won't share that. In 2009 when Coach Baird stepped down, I never saw Coach Strickland leaving Gaffney for Newberry. Watching some of the kids that are coming up in the next 5-10 years playing youth football right now has me hopefully for the future, but so much can change so fast in today's world.
I have faith that the people in the leadership positions will make the right hire for Newberry.
Re: End of Season
Newberry sounds like a premier job. Could open up a domino effect for the state.
