Just as sure as I used to sit at Scatterbrain's joint back in the day drinking beer and contemplating the meaning of life- unraveling the great mysteries of the world, the playoffs are coming. Friday's matchup against Lexington is Dutch Fork's final regular season game. They have a bye the final week of the season- gives them a chance to rest up and heal before the second season begins.
In Class A...can anyone slow down Southside Christian? I kinda doubt it. Class 2A- will Abbeville win another title or do teams like Gray and Silver Bluff bring Abbeville back to earth- don't know.
D. Wistar Daniel looks like the favorite and should sail through in Class 3A. I don't see Powdersville being more than a speed bump for the Lions in the Upper State...paper tigers. However, Dillon is playing well and don't sleep on Oceanside. Lower Richland is quietly putting together a strong season.
Class 4A is the most competitive. As far a "favorite" to win...pick one. I guess the smart money would be on South Pointe...but then you have The Beach, the defending champs Flora, Greenwood, Greenville, South Florence...list goes on. Dark horse...Irmo. More than one good team here in Irmo.
Class 5A....everyone knows my pick but looking at the Lower State, Fort D. is rolling along and will be strong in the playoffs. Though they are not the juggernaut they were last season...Sumter, don't overlook them. Goose Creek played well against FD. Upper State is interesting...Gaffney, Northwestern, Byrnes is playing better, Spring Valley, Spartanburg - but until someone solves that Wing-T, Hanna is a tough out. Do I think Dutch Fork wins the title?...sure hope so, especially after the year they have had. Have to wait and see.

Playoffs Approaching
Re: Playoffs Approaching
1A -- Southside Christian. Recruiting is a wonderful thing. That being said they walk to the title.
2A -- Abbeville. Until somebody kills the king, they have to be the pick. Yes, Gray could challenge. Another example of recruiting being a wonderful thing.
3A -- Daniel. Don't really see anyone seriously challenging them.
4A -- More wide open that the others. I still think Flora has the edge. Think their defense is better than everyone else and that will be the difference.
5A -- Dutch Fork. Not sure anyone can really threaten them

Re: Playoffs Approaching
Back before week zero, a few folks submitted picks for state champions... wonder if anyone would like to make changes?

Re: Playoffs Approaching
I’m going to go straight chalk
I don’t know if it’s ever been done where every champion in every division repeated.
1a Southside Christian and it’s not close
2a Abbeville beats Gray they win
If Gray beats Abbeville they win
3a You already know
4A The hardest to pick and the deepest amount of contenders
Flora has been up and down
Score 3 points one week and 50 the next
I think the Irmo game is a wake up
But they have to do it the hard way now
5A DF of course again I don’t think it’s close
The only teams I think would give them a game because of their style is Northwestern and Gaffney
But for some reason those two can’t figure out Hanna
And Hanna is just a bad matchup for DF
See you at Williams Brice eerrrrr Benedict college
Oooooooof!

Going with Oceanside from the Lower State...was set on Dillon but I don't know now... just a hunch. Their record is not great but they have played a tough schedule.Ddub14 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 1:09 pmI’m going to go straight chalk

Re: Playoffs Approaching
Having the games at Benedict is such a joke. Many of us without a dog in the hunt in any of the camps loved going to WB and watching three games from noon until evening. Impossible at small stadium like Benedicts. Another decision made with their head shoved deep in the sand by the SCHSL.Ddub14 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 1:09 pmI’m going to go straight chalk

Re: Playoffs Approaching
River Bluff has a great stadium that is central to the state. It can't be worse than Benedict.

Re: Playoffs Approaching
I think DF is right about Oceanside
Kind of under the radar
I believe Dillon is overrated just like they were last year.
They have not been the dominant team they were in 2a as expected.
Camden may have a say In it but they lost so much on offense last year I don’t see it.

Re: Playoffs Approaching
DF has a bye week final week of the regular season....time to rest up and get healthy...and get ready to feed.
Need to clean up a few penalties but the DF offense can move the ball. Williams and Green are the best WR/RB combo around. Those guys can go.
I think the region will do well in the playoffs- Chapin and Lexington will acquit themselves well, I believe.
5A better pack a lunch. Time to work.
