Parameter for the question:
The principal, community, school board, etc give Knotts the same support they give current coach?
Because whether you realize it not that’s usually a big part of any successful coaching tenure. Now support doesn’t mean automatic wins, still need to coach em up and earn tbat trust and support.
Are there any programs that a guy like Tommy Knotts could not win at?
Re: Are there any programs that a guy like Tommy Knotts could not win at?
Short answer is yes, several. Would a coach like Knotts make them better, of course. However, to have a winning program you need several things; the coaching staff, an administration that "buys in", a community that "buys in" with the resources/tax base to support it, and the jimmys and joes.
West Oak, Calhoun Falls, Stall, any number of small "cotton mill" towns where the economy tanked and not rebounded. The Carolina GOAT would make them competitive, but consistent winners would be a tough assignment. A place like Dutch Fork is "the perfect storm". I was on SC boards 13 years ago, 9000 miles away, when the news broke of Tom Knotts coming to DF and I told everyone then...DF would take over. Everyone said their was no way he could replicate what he did at Independence, including sportscasters like Jason Gilmer after he won his first title. My reply was...watch him.

Carolina and west oak he might get them to .500 though
I was going to say Wade Hampton as well but then I thought about it and he might have enough to work with there.

Give Tom Knotts 4 weeks at Wando and I bet they start winning and gaining fan support. I think he could even win a playoff game. Coaching is like playing a guitar you either got it or you don’t.
Re: Are there any programs that a guy like Tommy Knotts could not win at?
Knotts would make most any program better no matter lack of facilities, administrative, or community support. But there are areas where I am not sure he could make them elite. Most of Greenville County comes to mind. Greenville is a magnet school and has an active alumni for support. Greer is Greer and one of the few schools left in Greenville with cradle to grave support. But even that is not as strong as it used to be. But Greenville County as a rule puts little importance on football. And this runs from the district office down through each schools administration.

I would like to find out.

Sure I'd like to see what Knotts could do with Gaffney's talent....but he he don't seem like a Gaffney kind of guy....now if they had left Phil Strickland alone...things might be different..
