Newberry @ Chesterfield

The Phil Strickland farewell tour will hit the road this week for a long trip to Chesterfield. The Bulldogs won their first round game over Landrum 43-7 in a game that wasn't even that close. The Rams beat Newberry's region 3 mate Columbia 40-6 last week. Columbia was the only common opponent the teams shared, with both beating the Capitols by 34 points. Newberry beat Columbia on the road in region play 34-0. One thing is for sure, Newberry is battle tested this season. All five of the teams they lost to are still alive in the playoffs heading to round 2.
This will be the second straight week that Newberry will play an opponent the school has never faced. It's not often we play a school we have never played, and now we have it back to back weeks.
I have no idea how this game will turn out. Doodles has Chesterfield as a 5 point favorite, while Calpreps predicts a 42-28 Newberry win. I will not be making the trip to Chesterfield unless I change my mind before Friday. I want to go so I can add another stadium to my list of stadiums I've seen a game in, but I don't want to make that drive. More than likely, I will be listening on WKDK, which I would encourage everyone else not going to a game to do, as the voice of the Bulldogs Mr. Jimmy Coggins is also on his farewell tour. He will not be calling Newberry High School games after this season.
