ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Carolina Panthers' proposed $800 million practice facility project in Rock Hill, South Carolina, is officially dead after team owner David Tepper’s real estate company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware on Wednesday night.

Tepper, who made billions in hedge funds, is the NFL’s wealthiest owner. The filing will not affect the NFL’s Panthers or Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC in any way.

It’s unclear at this point what will happen to the half-built practice facility.

Tepper has invested more than $175 million into the facility, which is located about 25 miles south of the team’s current downtown stadium and headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

I am not sure what is going on here. You have a half built facility, and on going work on an interchange and bridge going directly to the site, off I 77. I am not sure if the folks from Rock Hill dropped the ball by not reading the fine print, or Tepper is just using this as some type of negotiating ploy to get Rock Hill to carry more of the cash burden. Most bleeding heart liberals are usually standing around wanting something for free, and Tepper is absolutely in that category. So it appears this is the 2nd time the Panthers have duped SC. The first time was when the franchise was given to them by the NFL. Now this. It would amuse me more than anything in the world if a sink hole would open up and swallow the stadium in downtown Charlotte.

not sure what happened here either but good riddance..Wish they were called the Charlotte Panthers

letting billionaires build their facilities and then not making them pay taxes (as part of the deal) is wrong without a referendum by the citizens

They should inquire if it cannot be paid for by the owner
Stop construction .take it by imminent domain .plow it.
Build multiple bat houses which are federally protected on the land . Cheap and easy to build .
Give tepper the old FU .

Of course Tepper can pay for it. He is a billionaire, and reportedly is the wealthiest of all NFL owners. That is a pretty high cash level. He just decided to bankrupt the company he created for this project. As I said, I am not sure if he is just playing negotiating games, or if someone in Rock Hill really didn't keep up their end of the bargain. But going to look pretty stupid with a half built monstrosity sitting on the side of the road, and an expensive interchange to nowhere
