So I saw a thread named 5A Random Thoughts Thread and got nostalgic again for PFT.

Hope you weren't counting on a reply from SLICK. He's WAY too random to zero in on a thread titled "Random Thoughts".

Gaffney never gettin' the respect they deserve.

And I doubt The Cavs will be in the top 10, so probably a good call there. That might actually be a good measure for the new coaching staff. Look at their record at the end of the season but also look at the overall rankings that are done by the coaches' poll.

I will see them at one or two 7 on 7 tournaments this summer season.

I know they lost a lot the the top talent but I expect them to still be a top team with the transfer RB Davain Brown from First Baptist and Zolten Osborne back as the main feature under center. They should be returning several DBs that saw a lot of time as well.

Cavs will be tested early with Greenville. Also, Coach Curtis and staff are going to be welcomed to 5A Region 2 with the last three weeks haul being Byrnes, Gaffney, and Spartanburg.

My Region predictions is a toss up right now.

Spartanburg and Gaffney should sit at the top right now I feel Spartanburg returns more talent than Gaffney, but Gaffney is your defending state champions in a season many didn't expect for them to do what they did. The expectations for Byrnes and Shaw are extremely high and they probably should be mentioned with the other two teams, if this team can remain healthy (especially with the RBs) I think will be ranked in the top 5 at the end of the season. Dorman has the everything in place to be a contender the offensive line is probably the best in the state, the QB will be the full time starter this season without the every other series situation he was in last season. Boiling Springs can compete with all the teams in the region, I however feel that they will be young and will be to get used to Coach Reel and his new staff.

Good points. Especially about Boiling Springs. I'd forgotten they're retooling their staff. Would be cool to see if the culture and rep of the Bulldogs can change.

I'd say mentioning the strength of Dorman's schedule is a bit redundant. None of the teams in our region traditionally have ever had weak schedules. You could say that about any new coaching staff of a team in our region. It's always been a bunch of pretty good teams just pounding each other.

Like I've said, all those folks who thought Dorman wasn't winning as much as they should and that Gutshall had overstayed his welcome will finally get to see how far we could actually fall. Hopefully the new coaching staff will provide us a soft place to land.

I think Gutshall had impeccable grace. He took over this team and immediately started a streak of winning seasons that still has the state record. The first losing season he had, he retired and that losing season came on an upset. We had the Vikes wrapped up last season during the playoffs when one of our players drew a foul and changed the whole momentum of the game. Heck, back in JJ's first year we flirted with a losing season and only escaped by beating Sumter in the playoffs to wind up with a .500 record.

I think realistically if Curtis can avoid a losing season then it's already an improvement on last season.

To me, the most interesting thing is that he played for the Lexington team in 2000 that bumped their heads twice on the Cavs. Both of those games should have been easily won by the Wildcats. And how about the Gutshall's class in admitting that he felt awful for the Lexington team by beating them to win state.

I choose to believe that the experience of that will help the new coach through the years. And what a rousing pep talk it would be. The kids he's going to be coaching weren't even born yet. So he'll be able to teach them about what it means to never give up, never stop pounding, never lose hope. I also choose to believe it will be all the more inspiring because he's not relating his own experience playing for his own team. He'll be reminding them of their OWN legacy.

Of course, Gutshall probably didn't espouse much through the years about that game to his players. How could he? He's way too classy to beep his own horn. But I bet Curtis will be all too happy to tell them about those two games in 2000. I know I'd have that in my back pocket at all times if I was in his unique position. I would make it a mandatory game film. His comment that their QB's injury was what turned the momentum doesn't explain the defense suddenly giving up TD's and two point conversions 3 times in a row nor does it square with the botched kickoff return by the Wildcats.

I'm just gonna show up next season and just promise myself to have fun and maintain my modest attitude towards my team. No expectations. No disappointments. Hopefully, we'll outperform my modest expectations.

I think DF is in good shape, with a challenging schedule this season with Hough, Spartanburg, Creekside and St Francis as non-region foes.

Defense is solid. Experienced and deep. No glaring weaknesses...Perry, Danley, Johnson, Camp, Buetow, Taylor etc..

QB looks to be promising. Deep at RB with a marquee starter. TE is always a position where DF has depth and talent. Should be the same this season. One returning starter at WR with some exciting young talent getting the starts. OL only return a couple starters but most have had significant playing time. Maybe not as big as in the past few seasons, but look to be more athletic.

Ready for another run at a state title.

Someone told me that Summerville has a really good QB that has a cannon. Some teams will just mature and get much better as the season goes along. Game experience should help some younger players get better and the same for teams. A game played between 2 teams in week 10 would be a much different game that would be played in week 1. Maturity and injuries are a real factor. The Charleston metro area should be very interesting with all of the new talent and old rivalries. Anxious to see who can make the big plays in the big games.

We will be fine . Last yrs rb is on D as a lb l.b. two new runningbacks.
One bruiser one bruiser with moves .qb bigger stronger faster .a few recievers defense will be solid .
Quick .one returner on oline one D line shifted over.
A few youngins . Not as many recievers but we returned a few . We look quicker but lighter on The oline.
We have talent . We will be top 10.
Maybe more if oline develops . We may pick up some players durring summer aswell.

Remember old pengy doesnt like laprad so you have to take him with a grain of salt with us.

I think the QB may be special. I think he has the tools and will have some targets. He has the potential to be a D1 QB. Should be fun to watch
