Preseason Champs Prediction

I wanted to see who is your preseason favorite to win the upper state and lower state and then the state title. We can hopefully look back at the end of the season and see how wrong or right we end up being.
5A
Upperstate - Gaffney
Lowerstate - Fort Dorchester (state champs)
I’m ready for DFoldman to tell me how wrong I am and I wouldn’t be surprised if DF does make it back to state but I think this is the year for Fort D.
4A
Upperstate - Greenwood (state champs)
Lowerstate - South Florence
I picked SoFlo last year to make it to the title game and they were bounced in round 1. So hopefully I don’t bring them bad luck again this year. But once they get to the title game I think the Eagles will get it done this year.
3A
Upperstate - Daniel (state champs)
Lowerstate - Beaufort
Call it bias but I still believe my Lions are the top team in 3A. The team had a great summer and are looking for the three peat. There are a few other teams from the Lowerstate that I believe can get to the title game but I like Beaufort after losing the 4A title game last year.
2A
Upperstate - Abbeville (state champs)
Lowerstate - Oceanside
Abbeville will be out for blood and hopefully we will see them take down both Gray and Oceanside so they can claim the 2A title.

Upperstate - Southside Christian (state champs)
Lowerstate - Bamberg-Erhardt
While I hope an actual public school like Bamberg or Lamar could win the state title in 1A, Southside Christian will once again reign supreme with their recruits.

4A. Upper state and state championship will run through Rock Hill. Southpointe or Northwestern.

5A- Dutch Fork: Talent, coaching and a chip on their shoulder. Fort D will be in the hunt, of course Gaffney, Byrnes, Spartanburg, Hanna, Dorman
4A- Northwestern: They are going to be a lot for 4A this season...South Pointe...champs are champs.
3A- DWD: They are going to run through the Upper-State like a dose of salts...don't sleep on Dillon...been quiet too long, and Beaufort.
2A- Gray...or Oceanside...leaning toward Gray.
1A- SSC or LAY-MAR!!!

No way Pickens beats Berea they were the second to last team in the worst 3a conference in history last year
Now their moving up to 4A

5A upper Gaffney
5A lower Fort D (champs)
Gaffney is the champs until their not
I like the an situation at FD over DFs qb situation
Plus they got a lot of payback due from last season
Sleeper pick Hillcrest
A lot back on defense and a good senior qb
4A upper Northwestern (champs)
4A lower Myrtle Beach
Singe Paige Woffords hiring they have been knocking on the door. Moving down to 4A this particular year might actually mean more deep competition than in 5A
Their biggest hurdle may be 10 miles down the road
I think MB got too cute in last years playoffs and it but them
They always seem to be in the mix
Sleeper pick A C Flora
Yea they lost their coach
But they still have Markel Townsend and a lot of players who know how to win
3A upper You already know DWD(champs)
3A lower Brookland Cayce
Not really a lot needs to be said
They are simply loaded right now and it’s not falling off anytime soon from what I can see.
Fruster has them focused on one game at a time and one season at a time.
BC has been at the doorstep the last two years eventually falling to the lower state champion Camden both years
They have 23 seniors and a good 3 yr starting qb
Sleeper pick lower Richland
Remember these guys were in Upper state last year and had a heck of a year . Will be interesting to see what they do in lower this year

I hate to have either of them in there but it is what it is.
Gray knows what it takes now and even though they lost a tremendous player they are still experienced and talented
Coming down from 3a to 2a Oceanside will have the depth and talent to get to the title

Honestly their the only school in the upstate that could prevent Gray getting back

SSC only competitors may be the other two private schools ten miles from them
Bamberg always have a solid squad but it won’t matter in the end.

It looks like FD lost a lot, especially along the lines...where it all begins. In the trenches. DF defense is loaded and deep. The QB question at DF is a good problem...Knotts has run two before with success. FD is always the first team I look to because they are likely the team in the way to Columbia...Knotts has played FD 7 times since his arrival...only loss was to D.Joyner in the regular season and then beat him in the playoffs- TK has never lost to FD in the playoffs, when it counts the most. I like DF chances this season. Last season was tough, and the fact they made it back to Columbia in spite of those deaths was a tribute to the team and to the coaching staff...hats off. They are primed, extremely talented/deep, well-coached and hungry. Look out....I think they may have a point to make.

It could go down like that for sure.
I tried to tell you last year though that your qbs play was suspect and you deny that was the case.
When Green went down last year and the qb had to deliver the deep ball to williams and couldn’t it exposed that weakness.
It’s either FD or DF in the lower state either way. Pretty clear cut on that. I just favor FD for having an experienced qb with superior talent.
Really for me that’s what it comes down to.
They have a chance to prove everyone wrong and if I was DF I wouldn’t dwell on last year . It’s over .
