So what about the new point spread rule?! Did NW score 89 points in a half? The game should be over with a 42 point spread!!!

I don't think that's the rule.

As it was explained to me, if there's a 42-point spread by the 2nd half, the game goes to an involuntary running clock until the spread comes back under 42. As I understand it the clock ran unabated most of the night.

As it was explained to me by TG78, everything was done to stop the bleeding early. All starters were pulled after the 1st half. 3rd and 4th quarter saw 3rd and 4th string players out there with, of course, a running clock. The backups for NW outscored the Bearcats 27-0 in the second half.
