Abbeville at Westside

Post by *Topcat* »

Westside thrashed a good TL Hanna team last week, lost close to BHP in a game they led most of the way. To beat TL Hanna that bad, they must be talented. This is another tough game for Abbeville, hope we hang with them. Not a must win by any stretch, against a good 4A team, but, good competition for us that should be helpful later on. Our region is weak so the pre-region schedule is a good gauge of where we are. I cannot remember the last time I have been to this stadium, possibly 1971, Abbeville vs Pickens in 3A playoffs. May have been one since then, can't remember it. My only predidction is a tough, hard fought game.

Good luck to the Panthers.
Man that 71 team was special 13-0.i watched
them play Irmo at BHP field in the 1st round.
Game ended in a tie and Atown won on
penetration.different overtime rules back then.

Yep. Still not sure what happened at the end of the OT. I think Irmo fumbled that last play or they may have won, so I was told. Crazy.

Perhaps the "Game Of The Week". Abbeville is always loaded. Westside, yo-yo. Up & down. Which Westside team shows up will determine the outcome. Abbeville will play 4 quarters, so it could be a real slobber knocker.
The "Godfather" didn't whine like The "Slobfather" is doing, when he got INDICTED!!!!!

The Rams just had too much air power for us, accurate QB and good receivers. We did leave some points on the field, but, they likely did as well., with penalties. After getting past the shell shock of the quick 21-0 deficit, we played pretty well. We should not have tried for FG down 21-0, with 4th and 5 on their 23. Also, had ball at their 1 yard line later with a couple of cracks at it, ran our QB instead of a bigger back, :?: :?: :?: , then had a penalty, ended up not scoring at all. Westside was better team, nothing for Abbevile to hang their head about. One more thing, we have the ability to throw it around a bit, but man, we are so reluctant to do so until we have fallen behind by 2 or 3 scores, until it becomes a necessity. See games vs Powdersville and Westside. Can we throw a couple in the first quarter sometimes, maybe loosen the D up a little? Might work.

I’ve said for the longest time that Abbevilles offense is that of a little league team. It’s effective at that level because of their athletes and depth . It’s not a knock just an assessment. I to have wondered if they went to a more wide open game if it wouldn’t benefit them even more getting their guys in space and limiting the amount of punishment they take in the ground game. The level of play now at 2a with Gray and Oceanside might push that to happen . As successful as they have been I think it would make them that much more dangerous, especially when they step up in competition.

The Westside offense lived up to expectations. What surprised me the most was the speed of their defensive front. Abbeville historically excels because of their overall depth, especially for a small 2A team. It was rare for players to have to play both sides of the ball. This year, there are plenty of athletes, but not sure the traditional depth is there, especially on the lines. Couple that with some key injuries at skill positions has identified some challenges and pushed more people into dual roles. Injuries are part of the game, and the next man up has performed well, but also limited the depth at other positions. All in all, these challenges will just make them better in the long run. As far as the comments about the offensive scheme, many highly ranked defenses in the past have been expected to stop it but it continues to be effective. Abbeville has 2 losses this season, and one from last year. None were because of a lack of production from the offense.

And I was just beginning to think you understood how football worked.

I understand enough about plenty of things

Like you have an opinion just like I do

And things like I’ll sleep well because I’m not looking for approval from you

And the fact that you don’t understand what I’m saying says more about your intellectually dishonesty than it does about me.
