Where would you put the State Championships at?

Post by mystikul »

If you were over the SCHSL and it was your decision on where to put the State Championships. What location/locations would you have them at?

I would like to see them moved around... I just think it might help some of the other schools in recruiting. A young sophomore may see Coastal and like it for example. If the bigger schools don't come knocking on his doors, maybe he gets a look from Coastal, Citadel, or some of the other schools in Charleston

For example:
2013 USC (William's Brice)
2014 Furman
2015 Citadel
2016 Coastal Carolina
2017 Clemson

I'd also like to see rotation among who plays Friday Night, who's at noon, etc

That's a good idea.....are you talking about having all classes at the same stadium? Or just 3a-4a games?

Well, I don't think you can have all seven games the same weekend at the same place... because you don't want Sunday games.

But 1A are usually a week before, so maybe you could have 1A and 2A the week before and 3A and 4A the following week.

Saturday:
10:00 1A Div One
1:00 1A Div Two
4:00 2A Div One
7:00 2A Div Two

Saturday
12:00 4A Div Two
3:30 3A
8:00 4A Div One

Then next year, switch the times around...

Not many folks attend all of the games any way, you usually go to the ones you have some involvement with...

4A - I'd go to both games
3A - Only if it was before one of the 4A games
2A - Not very likely would I attend either game
1A - I'd be at the 4A semi-final game closest to my interest

All in Columbia. Central  location to entire state. No advantage for Columbia teams because they never make it to championship.
CENTRAL EAGLES...MAKE PLAYS NOT EXCUSES.

Futch Dork made it last year, it didn't look like much of an advantage.

Until SC improves it's highways some I think they should keep them in the Columbia area.

I like the idea of having all the schools play same weekend. And be cool with them rotating the site every year, doubt that will work cause with 14 teams it might not work to good at the small colleges. So i'm going with USC!!
Friday 2:00 - 1a
Friday 5:00 - 1aa
Friday 8:00 - 4a

Saturday 11:00 - 2aa
Saturday 2:00 - 2a
Saturday 5:00 - 3a
Saturday 8:00 - 4aa

That game should be a neutral field, about the only thing that seems to be agreed upon by most everyone....

This has been debated over and over with comments like Columbia is centrally located to all areas. I agree, it is centrally located but even though I am a Gamecock fan, I agree that Williams Brice is no where near as good as Death Valley when it comes to hosting the Championship Weekend.

I don't know why the SCHSL doesn't build a stadium and play the championships there. Have the 1A and 2A and then a week later 3A and 4A.

Starting in Week 0 through the beginning of Region Play, host at least one game a week at the stadium.

Week 0 bring Goose Creek up I-26 and Byrnes down I-26 and play at the stadium. Or maybe ESPN brings in a couple teams from Florida... and plays Friday, and two on Saturday.
Week 1, bring a good match up of AAA or AA teams. Week 2 match up North Augusta and South Florence... when you get to Region Play, focus on the Columbia area teams in all classes. Maybe even toss in a Thursday game or two.

Maybe they have a TV deal set up, for the in season games and the playoffs.

I don't about you guys, but I think this could be a money maker,if managed properly.... ahh, that is why the SCHSL hasn't done this... I answered my own question!

I couldn't agree more, Reb's idea is perfect

I've never been to Death Valley for a State title game. What in particular makes it a better host?

A High School League exclusive stadium would be cool, but I just don't see that happening. I'm a big fan of keeping it at Willie B, for all the usual reasons.
