GAME OF THE WEEK: South Florence ready for season's toughest test
Lou Bezjak | Morning News | SCNow.com
FLORENCE, S.C. — Nick Jones isn’t sure how good the South Florence football team is. The Bruins quarterback and the rest of his team will certainly have a better idea after facing Stratford on Friday in the Morning News Game of the Week.
A victory over a perennial power like Stratford, which enters the game at 9-0 and ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, would be a big confidence boost for the Bruins.
“ It would send a big message to everyone that this isn’t the same South Florence Bruins team they have seen in previous years that goes to the playoffs and can win one game but gets blown out in the second round,” Jones said. “If we can beat a team that is the caliber of a team like Stratford, it can show we can play with the big boys this year.”

They are calling for rain all day, not ending until Saturday morning. This could be a sloppy, low scoring affair.

I hope the rain holds off and that both teams fans come out & support them tonight. Regardless both of us are looking forward to a great & safe game tonight. Question for you Band Dad, is the game going to be played at S.F. or in another part of Florence, why I ask that is my understanding is that yall and W.F. share the same field?

The game will not be at SFHS, it will be at Florence Memorial Stadium.CobraKnight wrote:I hope the rain holds off and that both teams fans come out & support them tonight. Florence Memorial Stadium is just off US-76, on the east side of Florence, just east of the airport.
If you have a GPS, google is telling me the address is: 100 S Stadium road, Florence
Have a safe trip.

Google changed their "Maps" program, I don't know if this will work. Here's a link to a map showing just the schools and stadium:

I'll be there on the sideline with the chain crew, I hope the rain holds off, I got a feeling if it holds off, it will be packed
And yes Cobra, unfortunately we share our stadium with West and Wilson, that is a sore subject around these parts with all three teams. Playing in 60 year old + stadium that the city doesnt want to update.
I always say if I win the the lottery that we would break ground the next week on Bruins Stadium.

Evans leader of South’s strong group up front

FLORENCE, S.C. — Looking back on his second career start as a freshman on the South Florence offensive line a couple years ago, Zack Evans can’t help but laugh. Going up against West Florence defensive end Dwayne Gunn, Evans was whistled for five false start penalties in a 24-7 victory by South.
Evans, now a junior, has come a long way since. The 6-foot-2, 260-pounder has been a stabilizing force at left tackle on South’s offensive line. In the Bruins’ marquee matchup with Stratford tonight, he will make his 35th straight start.

Re: SF ready for season's toughest test
I'm one of those who will be looking for this score...
I am honest enough to admit, I don't know if SF can hang with Stratford or not. Based on all the scores, the records, and all the "eye candy" I'm going with Stratford in my picks but I wouldn't be putting a dollar on this game if I were a betting man!

Re: SF ready for season's toughest test
Stratford is a good team, but they struggled in several games this season and nearly got knocked off by Summerville. Last week against WA, 7-0 at halftime???Rebel-Fan-74 wrote:I'm one of those who will be looking for this score...

All I'm saying is this, both teams want this bad, it's gonna depend on who makes the fewest mistakes.
Here's to a great game and good luck to both sides and a safe trip and safe game for the players.
Go Bruins!!!!
