Appreciate Michael Strahan coming to Rock Hill to attempt to tell the story of Football City USA. A great player, but clearly not a great journalist. It watches like a pump piece for South Pointe, 2 interesting adults and one freshman who might become a pretty good player. I am sure the people who created the culture by which Football City USA became known would have gladly been interviewed. What about the coaches who built it, the players who put us on the map? What about the guys who just graduated who still have the big dream?
You’d the\ink SP was the only program in town. You’d think they won something in 2022.
Good news, if you know Rock Hill football and football across our state then you know the truth. Too bad Michael Strahan got bamboozled on this story.

I always think of Rock Hill vs Northwestern back in 1989-1993 at a stadium called district 3. Those games definitely put them high on the map.

I fondly remember my first and only trip to Rock Hill D3 stadium, I think it was 2009.
We were the last at-large berth in 4A, but I thought we had a chance.....
Northwestern 42, South Florence 0
........ at half time.

I’m not sure the “NFL or Bust” mentality is as widespread as ABC would like you to believe.
Seems like an ABC producer heard the name Football City, USA and wanted to make the story fit his/her narrative that the city is too focused on football and not worried about the young men’s futures.

I agree with that assessment. There was a lot wrong with that report starting with the starring characters. Oh well, most people won’t care.

Agree on at least one “starring character”.

Think it was pretty obvious what drove that little focus piece. And had little to do with the history of Football City USA
