Who was your choice or who did you think they were going to hire?

If you're referring to Coach Norton I beg to differ on him being a "young snot nosed wonder kid." Will he be successful as a HC? Guess we'll all find out but I can tell you he's a dang good OL coach, has a good mind for the offense backed up by playing experience and now coaching, and last, he's a great Special Ed teacher that will be sorely missed in the halls at PVHS. He's going to have a tough job.

I don’t have any clue if he will be a good head coach, or not. But God bless him in taking that job. It is a tough job, and an uphill battle, on a variety of levels. As for their wishes of a HC with 10 years experience. Not really sure how many coaches that have been successful enough to hang around for 10 years would want that gig.

Wish him the best . Not a lot of talent and dealing with that Principal is not easy from what I have heard

Just debating why they "required" 10 years teaching experience but decided not to follow for this dude. One good year does not make a good HC. I wish him well. He better be a GREAT OL coach because he will have to make some Chicken Salad. He better put the majority of his focus there and leave the play calling to the big boys. He will NOT have a 4 year stud like he had.

Maybe they made an exception due to him being a Special Ed teacher? I'll ask him when I see him. He's been coaching for 7 and teaching for 6 years, I believe. He's a good play caller. He called our plays the past 2 or 3 years. But what he did with our OL and the scheme was incredible. He took a skinny first year varsity kid and put him at left tackle and that kid killed it, All Region. He cross trained our OL to play multiple spots. My son played all 5 over the course of a season. Yes, it helped with the kids we had and that is one thing that surprised me is that he's leaving now. I figured he'd leave eventually. We're only losing 2 OL and the backups are capable and ready to step in and be starters. We still have speed on the edges and in the backfield and of course our QB's play speaks for itself.

As for what he's getting at Palmetto, yes, it'll be tough but I know they have good support with the younger group coming up. Their MS and JV struggled when I saw them but they coaches stayed in their ears encouraging and challenging them. They are trying to build the program back up. Once all the hiring dust settles across the district it'll be interesting to see what Palmetto and Wren look like. I've got my suspicions about the Canes so we'll see.

Not sure too many people applied. Pay is great, but your talent level is so low and you play in a tough region. It’s hard to get whatever talent there is there out. Not a lot of community support. Principal standing over your shoulder offering his advice . Trust me they did Doug Shaw a favor .
