Heard a rumor (and this is third hand, in full disclosure so take it with a grain of salt) that Fairfield, Mid-Carolina and Newberry may forfeit to Gray Collegiate this season because of their ability to recruit? Makes no sense, at all. I know teams like Abbeville or Saluda wouldn't forfeit to them. I don't understand. Mid-Carolina and Newberry have no problem playing Chapin and taking a beat down as bad or worse than Gray gave them. I realize they are non-region games and Chapin is a larger school, but the point is to compete and get better. Come on folks, give'em a tug and get in the game.

Seen that of a Facebook gruop.but from my understanding there may be hefty fines associated with this. Guess we will see.

Heard the same thing, just compete they're not unbeatable by any means. I don't see the point in saying we're not going to play them, heck Abbeville had no problem beating Oceanside for the 2A championship last season.

And Fairfield gave Gray a run for their money last season, so I don't get it at all.

Interesting. I heard fairfield was on the recruiting trail themselves. Got a WR from Lugoff Elgin. There is so much of this going on in the Columbia area. These guys are being funneled to schools through the travel 7v7 teams.

I know of one 7on7 team in the Midlands that is notorious for pushing kids to a certain school in the midlands (not known as Dutch Fork). I am pretty sure a youth travel football organization is doing the same thing to the same school since one of the coaches is a “personal” trainer for a bunch of the kids that all of the sudden decided to attend that school.

Yeah I’ve heard that sometimes HS kids transfer. And sometimes it’s due to recruiting, while other times a player’s family moves…..

I have no problem when a kid and their family moves. What I don’t like is when a parent moves a kid from school to school and then blames the coaches when the kid doesn’t get recruited. Moving schools is a red flag for college coaches. For example, I know a kid that finished 8th grade in Calhoun County, enrolled and played at Dutch Fork for 9th and 10th grade, and has transferred to Irmo as an 11th grader, but the kid lives in the Lexington area (29073). I was told the dad started questioning Knotts about why his kid wasn’t playing varsity as a 10th grader.

That is accurate but families sometimes say they moved and did not. Schools have become experts at getting around the residency rules. There was a situation a few years back when 2 basketball players moved into a new school and were using a nail salon address. These guys were not even brothers. Some schools are manipulating the mckinney vento act to get guys in schools as well.
