Mini-bus carrying Lake City High School football team involved in accident

LAKE CITY, S.C. (WPDE) — A Florence School District 3 mini-bus transporting a Lake City High School football coach and four student-athletes were involved in an accident Thursday afternoon while returning from a football camp.

The coach reportedly has been transported to a Columbia-area hospital. The four student-athletes on board were taken to other nearby hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident happened on U.S. 301 and Bonner Avenue in Orangeburg County. The minibus was travelling north on U.S. 301 when a tractor trailer travelling west on Bonner Avenue collided with the bus.

The coach [Ronald Baker] was airlifted to Prisma Health Richland in Columbia. The four student-athletes were also taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for minor injuries. One of the students had been transferred to a hospital in Charleston.

Google Street View image of the intersection. The tractor trailer either blew a stop sign or didn't see the bus approaching and pulled out onto 301.
