First, you have to give credit to Boiling Springs for playing a good game defensively. They wanted to force Byrnes to run the football, which Byrnes was successful at, but still hesitated to do. They worked really hard to take away the passing game, and were mostly successful.
Once again, penalties killed key drives. Every time Byrnes had a great offensive play /drive, a penalty negated it.
Looking ahead to the Spartanburg game, here's what I see. Byrnes has a better defense, and better special teams. As a matter of fact, this is the best special teams I have ever seen in 30 years of watching Rebel football. Obviously, the Viking offense has been more productive, particularly the rushing game. I think the game comes down to turnovers and penalties. For Byrnes to win, they need to get ahead early, and play great defense. Every time they force Spartanburg to punt, Foster has a chance to score on the return.

Re: Grading the Rebels against the Bulldogs
Not disrespecting the Bulldogs, but the problems I'm talking about have nothing to do with any defense.... it's pure execution of assignments. QB not setting his feet and throwing very poor passes, linemen not blocking at all, and penalties galore! They need to get focused!Fridaynightfan wrote:First, you have to give credit to Boiling Springs for playing a good game defensively.
