I picked Byrnes. I just think they have Spartanburg's number.
CENTRAL EAGLES...MAKE PLAYS NOT EXCUSES.

Excellent graphic.
I'm going to go against the grain here and pick Byrnes. I watched them play Northwestern and though the Rebel offense looked shaky at times, the defense seemed pretty stout to me. It also seemed that Micah throws better and makes good decisions when flushed from the pocket. I don't know if Byrnes' running game is going yet but if they can get some yardage on the ground I believe the offense should be balanced enough to score enough points. The big thing I think is going to be penalties for Byrnes. If they play clean I like their chances.
I've only seen Spartanburg in one scrimmage so I really have nothing to go on about them except what I've heard. I know on paper, they are the better team and I know they are going to be very pumped and very prepared for Friday night. I expect them to play very well.
But I smell an upset. It seems as if Spartanburg fans are expecting a victory and aren't giving Byrnes much of a chance. Byrnes fans also are more subdued than usual. Miller is riding high and the Byrnes coaches are probably starting to feel some pressure to make a statement.
It really will be the place to be in this state Friday night. Probably the game of the year and I think it will live up to expectations. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Spartanburg ends their losing streak to Byrnes but I haven't grown accustomed to picking against the Rebels just yet.
As far as who I'd like to see win, it's a wash for me. Everyone always wants a chance to knock off an undefeated team so in that spirit I would be alright with seeing Spartanburg continue undefeated. But Dorman has already suffered a loss and the old Cavalier in me wouldn't mind seeing their record evened up with our own before we play them. Also, it is true that fan behavior on the boards affects my bias one way or the other. Some of the Viking fans have challenged my ability to pull for their team.

The Byrnes running game has really come on strong the last two games. Byrnes ran for 152 against a Gaffney team, that hadn't given up 100 all year. Then when were down at BS, it seemed like we leaned on Rogers and Mayes in the running game.DeCav wrote:Excellent graphic.

Another thing to think about is the weather. Its gonna be rainy and wet, and for once in my lifetime for sure, the rain may be a positive for the Rebels. If SHS has a weakness, its their OL and Byrnes has a stout front group. SHS will struggle to find lanes for Feaster and that will only become harder if Scott is unable to sling the ball around. Also, the speed of Byrnes' defense has always given Feaster problems, simply because he never plays a defense with 11 guys that can run like ours.
The single most deciding factor in this game will be Nixon Field. The mystique of Nixon has returned this year during the MC game and I fully expect it to be seen again on Friday night.
Rebels 38
SHS 28
Re: Poll and Opinions: Spartanburg @ Byrnes
I think this game could go either way. Byrnes has had some struggles this year. While SHS has strolled right through. I do agree that SHS looks good on paper. But...I do know one weak spot on Millers D. It has always been there against good passing teams. I just hope Lane and company exploit it.
Byrnes has already been battle tested this season in games againt NW and MC. These were huge games against tough teams. SHS has not seen such struggles as of yet this season. And, as always....Playing at home field is always a plus.
Now...If SHS can settle down and handle the pressure. It could be a long night for my Rebels. But...If they cant. Lights out!! On the Viking Ship.

Another thing Viking fans wont admit is that they have a young and questionable OL. They will be tested Friday and Scott will not be able to just stand back there. Plus, the rain is another element that could change some things.1st&Goal wrote:I think this game could go either way. Byrnes has had some struggles this year. While SHS has strolled right through.
