Stratford 20 - Summerville 6 FINAL

Post by GoBigGreen »

Another disappointing loss for Summerville. Summerville freshman QB Bennett got his first start last night but it was not a pretty one. The conditions did not help but Summerville could really not manage much on offense the entire night. We were outgained 188 - 24 yards in the first half and finished the game with a 312 to 125 disadvantage. I am not sure if it was the wet ball(why does the QB or Center not have a towel to dry off the QBs hands???) but Bennett's passes were anything but pretty with most looking like a hail mary. Once Stratford saw that we could not throw the ball they just geared up for the run. I know 38 passing yards occurred one play which leaves 87 yards for the offense the remainder of the entire game. I did like on defense seeing some new faces on the field who had previously just stood on the sidelines. The inexperience however hampered our defensive efforts leading to many long runs by the Knights. The score would have been a little worse had flags not occurred on several big plays for the Knights. Summerville had a shot until late in the 4th only trailing 14-6. With about 2 minutes remaining however we decided to punt which effectively ended the game for us because the Knights had few 3 and outs the entire night. Stratford scored with about a minute left on the clock ending the game. Good luck Stratford the rest of the way. As for Summerville, I think I will dress in several layers this coming Friday for the whipping we are going to take from Fort D. That might help ease a little of the pain...

I was not at the game but I was worried about Bennett getting his first start. I'm sure the conditions didn't help him at all, but I had heard he has some real limitations throwing the football. That being said I'm not sure it would have mattered who we had at QB. I feel like it's the same story every week. Without even being at the game I can tell you what we did on offense. Run up the middle, punt, run up the middle, punt! Defense has been struggling but it doesn't help them that they are always on the field. I am happy they played some other kids on D, there are alot of kids that haven't got an oppurtunity to show if they can play or not. Thanks for the recap GBG, but i have a question. With all the substituting, did we sub out the OC yet?

My guess is we are going to have to endure the entire season with the staff we have before any changes are made.

At Fort D - Huge Loss. This one has the making to be one of the worse losses Summerville has ever experienced.
Bye Week
At Colleton County - Close Loss. The Cougars are just too athlete for us to defend IMO and we will not keep up on offense.
AR at home - likely loss. Could possibly get Taylor back which could make it interesting.
At Bluffton - Close win. I think this will be our best chance to pick up a win.

If the above holds we will finish the season with a 3-8 record and not make the playoffs for the first time in, well lets see, ever. I think this would be enough to start the wheels in motion in the search for a replacement for Coach McKissick.
