Cancelled Games, Play-off Points

Post by 3rd and long »

What games were cancelled and how will that affect the points system? Will those games be mandatory mark offs? Anybody heard anything?

In 4A....
South Aiken vs. Colleton County
Goose vs. Ashley Ridge
were cancelled

Wando @ Bluffton is scheduled for Wednesday.

I will ask the question about mark-offs, hope I get an answer?

But for now I am ASSUMING that it is just considered an OPEN DATE
These games just become the mark-off games.

Points without Mark-offs, and Opponent Wins without Mark-offs is the 4th or 5th tiebeaker in the playoff system,
so not too damaging in that respect.

This potentially hurts Goose Creek the most, they lose a Big 16 opponent that has a winning record plus all the opponent wins that AR could have provided. (especially if GC won)

GC focusing on winning their Region games is more important.

The 4A handbook specifically addresses how to handle when a team has only 10 games. They would only mark off 1 game, and then in tiebreakers, even if Goose Creek is tied with North Augusta who played 11 games, the tie breaker would have GC mark off one game and NA mark off 2 games. If they go to the next state, NA and GC would had one game back, then it would go to coin toss.

So in essence, if you end up tied with one of those four teams, one of your games is tossed out the window and doesn't exist. Now if you end up tied with anyone else, you add BOTH GAMES before going to the second stage of the tie breaker.

I'll try to find the link...

http://www.schsl.org/classAAAA.html" target="_blank

Found on Page 43 of the Handbook (Which is on Page 44 of 90 of the PDF)

B. Tie Breaking Procedure: In case the point system does not gain a solution, the following will be used to seed teams:

1. If two teams are tied in the point system and the two teams played, the head-to-head winner will get the top seed. If there is a three-way tie and one team beats the other two teams, the winner will get the top seed. Also, if there are more teams tied for a particular seed, the point system will be used to seed the team. Seeds will be filled one at a time and the process will start back at the top of the point system.

2. The team whose opponents have the most victories (all games except mark off).

3. The team whose opponents have the fewest defeats (all games except mark off) will receive the top seeding.

4. Start back at the first step of the point system but include the mark off game. In a situation where the two teams have played a different number of games (11 or 10), the team playing eleven games will include the one (1) mark off that maximizes points. If both teams played the same number of games, then all mark offs will be added back before totaling points.

The last time I remember this coming up, even though it never actually came into play was Rock Hill a few years ago only played 10 games due to some sort of scheduling problem. Not many times a team will "CHOOSE" to play only 10 games.

Sumter just cancelled school for the rest of the week. I would be hard pressed to believe that Sumter vs South Florence will be played. Sumter hasn't practiced all week. Sumter is scheduled to play West Florence on Thursday next week so next week may not be an option to play SF.

This would be a little different situation... REGION GAME

It would have to be made up some how or the SCHSL would have to grant some sort of exemption. I mean with all that is going on, football would have to be the last thing to be considered of any importance. However, region members must all play each other or they are not eligible for the playoffs according to the handbook??? This could be interesting to see how it is handled...

Maybe SF-WF could be moved to Saturday insted of Thursday with a Monday Sumter-SF game? Who knows....

It appears that way. I "might" be able to adjust mine. Maybe. :|

I think the games could be made up on a Monday or a Tuesday later in the season.

Many teams have played Monday and Friday this year already.
