Region Title Races - Class 4A

Post by Dave Pickren »

Hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks left in the Class 4A regular season. Taking a look now at the region title races.

Region 1
Westside is in the drivers seat with a win over Hillcrest on the books. The Rams would have to lose 2 of the last 3 to fall behind Hillcrest. Hanna and Laurens still control their fate with games left against Westside.
Rams would be Division 2 in the playoffs.

Region 2
Spartanburg despite the loss to Boiling Springs controls their fate and has a very manageable schedule with Mann, Mauldin and Wade Hampton. The 2 key games left are BS at Dorman and Dorman at Byrnes which could cause a 3 way tie. Mauldin is also still in but play Byrnes and Spartanburg over the next weeks.
Vikings would be Division 2 in the playoffs

Region 3
Northwestern controls the region and has won by an average of 47 points per game in their 3 wins. Wins over Nations, Rock Hill and Gaffney would give the Trojans another title. If Gaffney could beat CLover and Fort Mill then the Gaffney Northwestern game would be for a title. If Nations Ford beat Northwestern then they would be in control.
Northwestern PROBABLY in Division 1 this season

Region 4
Key game tonight with Westwood and Ridge View, the winner in very good shape. Spring Valley still undefeated with games to play. Dutch Fork needs to win out and have Ridge View lose twice. Odds are very good that tie breakers will come into efffect with a balanced regions

Region 5
Lexington in control now but games against White Knoll and Irmo are looming. The Wolves and the Cats play the final week and could decide the region. White Knoll needs Irmo to lose twice.

Regions 6
Looks like the Sumter - Conway winner will take the region. The winners of the Tigers, Gamecock game would have to lose twice to not take the region

Region 7
A total dumpster fire of a region this season. A big win for the region race by Goose Creek this week puts them into the Cat's Bird seat but the Gators are capable of losing more than once. At this moment nobody in the region really stands out.

Region 8
One of the biggest games in years for the Charleston area is setting up for Week 11. Fort Dorchester and Ashley Ridge are headed towards perfect 10-0 records and a date for a title on November 6th.

Going to be an exciting finish to the regular season.

Conway has to first get by SF this week to setup that showdown with Sumter in week 10. 8-)

Actually, the Vikings DO NOT control their fate.... Byrnes wins out and Boiling Springs win out, it is a three way tie and likely a third place finish for the Vikings. I think the Rebels end up with more playoff points to take the #1 playoff berth, and Bulldogs would then own head to head for the #2 spot.

I don't think it really matters where the Vikings end up, they appear to be the odds on favorite to win Division II, but it sure would be easier to win at Wofford than on the road. Can Boiling Springs win out? Can the Rebels beat Dorman? That is up for debate for now, and personally, I don't think Dorman will lose both games and the very well may win both games, but there is nothing the Vikings can do for now but wait and see if their Dorman friends put them in the #1 spot.

Never heard a football region described thus. Good one.
