Region I Westside - T L Hanna
Before last week game with Greenwood, Westside was looking to be one of the teams the Spartanburg Vikings could be facing in Columbia.... Who say Greewood scoring 51 on Westside, raise your hand.... {put your hand down and pray for forgiveness if you raised it!}. This in a nutshell is for the Region Championship and at likely Top 3 or 4 seed in the Division 2 Bracket (depending on what happens to Northwestern). T L Hanna has not been getting much attention, but have played well at times this year, and while not many outside of Anderson area know of this rivalry, they don't really like each other down there... kind of like the love between Ft D and Summerville.
Westside - 24
T L Hanna - 21
Region II Mauldin -vs- Boiling Springs
Mainly because who gets to 6-5 and gives folks that half point bonus.... Region II teams don't care, they played both of them, but teams that played Mauldin will be pulling for the Mavs because a couple of teams need the half point to improve their seeding and may make a difference in not only who they play, but where they play.... and maybe even if they play.
I was at this game a few years ago when the final was like 82-78 and while I don't see a repeat of that score, I do think it could get a few points:
B. Springs - 48
Mauldin - 35
Region III - Gaffney -vs- Northwestern
If the Northwestern coaches have prepared for the Gaffney teams of old, it could get ugly. This Gaffney team is not what you are used to seeing in Gold and Black. Too inconsistent and mistake prone. When they are "on" they are as good as any team in Region III, but when they are not "ON"... well, Northwestern could win the game in the first half.
As long as the Trojans don't read things like this, and they come prepared like they were in Week 0, this will be Northwestern score to name....
HOWEVER: If the Gaffney team is focused and playing like they are capable, this game goes to the 4th quarter still any one's game.... and a turnover could make a big difference in the outcome.
I think last years game and the Trojan Coaching Staff are the difference:
Northwestern - 49
Gaffney - 21
Region IV through Region VIII will be posted by lunch... feel free to post your own and tell me where I missed these games... or which games I should have picked!

Re: Region by Region """KEY""" Games
Pretty fair analysis, however I think Hanna has been playing great football and Greenwood might have uncovered some issues with Westside. To get beat that bad, this late in the season, by a team that was 3-6 coming into the game and had losses by scores of (52-7 to NW, 42-7 to Spartanburg) I think that shows its deeper than just a "bad game".Rebel-Fan-74 wrote:Region I Westside - T L Hanna

Re: Region by Region """KEY""" Games
Region IV
Blythewood and Spring Valley play this week and next week so they have the best chance to improve their playoff chances and seed. Ridge View beats Dutch Fork, but fades back into oblivion while Westwood looked great, until falling behind Dutch Fork early and not making it all the way back... I'm saying Blythewood and Spring Valley both fall short tonight and Spring Valley gets the make up win.
Region V
White Knoll over Lexington would have to be an upset, but not calling that one, Irmo at 3-7 playing for second place in the Region kind of brings that whole "Let's make region games important" argument into proper perspective doesn't it? OK, the second place team in this region against the 5th place finisher in Region II and you have to put $1,000 on the game, who you got? The important games are Irmo and River Bluff for seeding and Irmo is playing much better once they hit Region Play, so Irmo in a close one... 14-6
Region VI
I feel like the policeman at the site of a wreck - "Move along folks, nothing to see here…" With out an upset, and I mean a HUGE upset, there is nothing to see. I would have to say that Conway, Sumter and South Florence are each at least 3 TD favorites in their games and I don't see that HUGE upset happening in either match up. The only one I would even mention is West Florence over South Florence and only because of the rivalry factor. The real news out of this region is that no one is mentioning Sumter or Conway when they talk about the brackets, and that is sad. Sumter may just end up in Columbia depending on who they face in their portion of the bracket... and Conway, well until the injury bug hit hard, may have been a full year ahead of schedule.
Region VII
Wow, what can you say about Region VII this year? Goose Creek is not the team we are used to seeing, Stratford is not a shadow of what we normally see, but they can keep Goose Creek from an undefeated Region Record…. That has to count for something doesn't it? Not that I think it will happen: Goose Creek 21 Stratford 7
Region VIII
You have to list both of these games! One is for the Region Championship and one is for the playoffs for a team that most of us have NEVER seen miss the playoffs. I don’t know if we ever determined the last time they didn't make it, but Summerville has been there for a long long long time. For most of that time, it was due to Big 16, but I don't remember many times they wouldn't have made it any way. This year, they need a win over Bluffton to even make it. Bluffton got smothered by Colleton County last week while Summerville hung close to Ashley Ridge before a pick six sealed the game. This week, we do not see history: Summerville 21 Bluffton 14. As for the Region Championship, I am firmly convinced that Fort Dorchester may just be the best team in the State not from Region II or Region III. I think they win and they may win big: Fort Dorchester 42 Ashley Ridge 24

Re: Region by Region """KEY""" Games
Yep it was 1968. Dave posted a little summary of that season in another thread. Basically only the region champs went to the playoffs back then. Summerville was 8-2 and did not make the playoffs because James Island was undefeated in the region. Hopefully after tonight I will be able to make the same statement about the last time Summerville did not make the playoffs
. We have a little surprise coming for them fellas down in Bluffton tonight....
