3A Who can defeat South Pointe?
South Pointe is the defending champ. Who can take that away from them this year? Hartsville? Someone else?

Seneca.
They might be the best team that Easley played this year.
South Pointe only beat Seneca 19-15 in the 2nd round of the playoffs last year.
And Seneca is better this year than they were last year.
How is South Pointe compared to last season?

SP is the favorite, but I would say the biggest challengers would be Hartsville, Greer, or Seneca

Look at it this way, South Pointe is the only team, that has giving Northwestern a fight, since Northwestern put its team of recruits together, Northwestern being the No1 ranked team in 4A, in the state, barely beat South Pointe in overtime, which was South Pointe only lose, South Pointe should not have any problems with the 3A teams in their path to the State Championship.

Team of recruits? Just did a quick check of the SCHSL website and it has 5 South Pointe football players listed as transferring in this offseason, including one who suited up the first two games for Northwestern. That same site shows 4 players from Northwestern. I love how people keep saying "recruits". Did South Pointe forget about the biggest impact transfer the Rock Hill area has ever seen? Devonte Holloman? A future NFL player who already had committed to Clemson (which he eventually switched to South Carolina) while playing at Independence in Charlotte through his 11th grade year.Wild Stallion wrote:Look at it this way, South Pointe is the only team, that has giving Northwestern a fight, since Northwestern put its team of recruits together, Northwestern being the No1 ranked team in 4A, in the state, barely beat South Pointe in overtime, South Pointe should not have any problems with the 3A teams in their path to the State Championship.
In all honesty of the three schools in Rock Hill, Rock Hill high has far and away the most transfers (although they haven't impacted the program at all). Programs "recruit" themselves. Kids will find ways to get to the programs they want to play in (very simple to do with home and apartment rentals). Please don't "down" a program that has impact players transfer in when the team you cheer for has the biggest impact transfer the Rock Hill area has seen in the past 10 years. NW has impact players that want to transfer in, while other programs have gotten players to transfer in due to lack of playing time at another school.
Transfers are the norm, have been for some time. Teams only like to "point it out" when their transfers aren't making impacts like other schools.
Re: 3A Who can defeat South Pointe?
in 2010 everyone thought that South Pointe would walk away with the championship, and everyone remembers how that turned out! 27-23 loss at the hands of MB. On a given night once you get that deep in the playoffs any team is capable of wining the title!

In the payoffs, different things can happen. Just look at Union County a few years ago.
I think South Point has a very good chance to take it all. But with that said, They will need to take it one game at a time.
First of all they will need to beat Daniel. Daniel is a little down this year but they are still Daniel. They will not be a push over team to beat. If SP does not bring their 'A' game, they will get beat.
Next, I think they will have to face Emerald. They are very good and well coached. Emerald will be hungry. The Greenwood over flow school will be tough for four quarters.
If SP makes it to play Seneca, they will need to play their best game of the year to beat them. Seneca is the same team as last year, just a year older and more experienced.
South Pointe will have a tough playoff season this year in the upper state, no cupcake teams in their future as it looks.

Greenwood over flow???? I'm not sure what to make of that.....Anyways on to the point of the thread. SP is the favorite but I think they can be beat by anybody in the playoffs. Last year Wren was supposed to walk all over Emerald in the 2nd round but Emerald pulled off the upset win. My point is this when the playoffs start anything can happen. With a survive and advance format you could be the better team but have a bad night and your season is over. I think the upperstate champ will be SP, Seneca, or Greer but I wouldn't sleep on BHP either. The Bears are always a pretty good team and show up come playoff time.
Re: 3A Who can defeat South Pointe?
Viking9987, I meant the "Greenwood over flow" comment in the best possible way!
Greenwood has won how many state championships? I think Emerald is and can be on that same level. Y'all have great talent and are well coached. That is why I said that SP will not have any cupcake teams to play in the upper state.
And I agree with you that if you don't show up to win, the other team could very well pull an upset. And I agree Seneca and SP both have a great shot.
Greer I really don't know. Region 1 gets battle hardened and beat up with Seneca, Daniel, Wren and BHP playing each other. Plus they all play teams in 4A and 2A that are very good in practice and during regular season. I don't know if Greer does as much.
As for my Bears, we will take it one game and one team at a time. You can't look ahead to future games that may not even happen. You have to focus on the game and the team you are going to play.
Good luck to the Emerald, maybe with a little luck both the Vikings and the Bears will face off for upper state.
