Fort Dorchester 56 Boiling Springs 34...Final

Post by dfactor26 »

Not the game I was expecting. I knew their QB was dangerous and I knew their defense had been playing really well. Well I came out of it really impressed with their QB but their defense was really disappointing. The first quarter was really exciting if you like offense, both teams trading scores and Boiling Springs put up 21 in the 1st quarter. I was nervous at this point, but Fort matched and kept up on offense and it was 21-21 with neither offense looking like they could be stopped. Fort's defense did step up though and held Boiling Springs and got a few key turnovers in the first half that allowed Fort to get a 28-21 lead headed towards half. This was the turning point of the game. After a long play Boiling Springs had 1st and goal at the 5. Based on the first quarter-and-a-half I had no reason to believe Fort was going to keep Boiling Springs out of the endzone...but after a penalty, a bad snap the QB had to fall on and a huge sack Boiling Springs had 4th and goal from somewhere around the 40. They went for it and the pass fell incomplete giving Fort a little over a minute and a few timeouts to get another score. They got the score, went up 35-21 and headed into the half. Fort received the ball first after half, and a few quick scores and it was 49-21. Boiling Springs got a TD to make it 49-28, but Fort responded once again to get the 56-28 lead. Fort backups went into the game in the 4th, Boiling Springs got a late TD in garbage time and that took us to a 56-34 final.

So there is your basic rundown. Game started off so nerve wracking and exciting, but went out with a whimper as Fort settled in. Honestly I thought Boiling Springs would be better on defense, but their offense was definitely as advertised and I was impressed with the QB. I do have to get credit to the Fort D for forcing several turnovers and getting some big sacks in key moments. Had Boiling Springs scored that touchdown before the half to make it 28-28 we might have a different outcome in the game. The Fort offense got whatever it wanted all night...I'll update this post once stats come in, but Joyner had another huge game, a few passing TD's and a few rushing TD's. Boiling Springs just had no answer for the Fort QB, and WR #81 had another huge game (and another 40+ yard TD) to build on his incredible run the 2nd half of the season. Fort runningback #28 had another big game and did the tough running late in the game to eat the clock up.

The only concerns I have were with special teams, allowed a few big returns and gave Boiling Springs a short field more than once. Hopefully it was just an off night. Excited for next week against Goose Creek. Prior to this game I would definitely say Goose Creek was the best team Fort played this year...and after tonight I still say Goose Creek was the best team I saw Fort play this year, so it seems very fitting that it comes down to these two teams for a chance to go to state. Was sorta pulling for Hillcrest just because I hate to play a rival and I know the team wanted some revenge on Hillcrest, but it wasn't meant to be. I have a feeling next weeks game is gonna be a thriller and the stands will be PACKED. Should be fun.

Grats Boiling Springs on a good season, hope you guys get home safe.

I'm betting bs had 100 to 125 yds in offsides penalties.

They had some big penalties, but ultimately it was their defense and turnovers that costed them the game. A few fumbles, a few bad (terrible) snaps that effectively ended drives and an interception...they had at least 4-5 turnovers that I can think of. Fort came out of the game with 0 turnovers and just got whatever they wanted on offense...that was the difference.

I agree.
We were discussing with the raise in taxes does the booster club pay for the police and fuel for the fort entrance?

Bs kept lining up offsides. They seem to lose their cool as well with alot of personal foul penalties. I did keep hearing on how well their secondary was, but i didn't see that at all. Joyner ate them up on the ground and through the air. But our dbs and safeties do need to be on the same page. The defense was confused all night but did force turnovers. Bad snaps also helped the cause

There was few players on both sides that were full of them selves.not just on the bs side.the kid that did the throat slash and a few other things.they let to much go on the official s were close to losing control of the game.
I didn't see much defense from either team.take away the bad snaps.very evenly matched teams.

Yeah he is, Just saw the stats in the paper.

Joyner had 330 yards of total offense (206 passing, 124 rushing) and had 6 total touchdowns (2 passing, 4 rushing)

Fort had almost 500 yards of offense

Boiling Springs had alot of yards too, mostly through the air, but 4 turnovers made a huge difference.

Here is the video from one of the local stations if anyone is interested

Boiling Springs junior quarterback Mason Streater passed for more than 300 yards, but the Bulldogs were plagued by mistakes, committing four turnovers and suffering from numerous bad shotgun snaps that resulted in negative yardage.
